Airtel Broadband is insecure

airtel does not provide routers to the home users.

Return their rented modem and buy urself a Router+Modem combo. That should do the trick.

well, it's same with MTNL as well...u type the IP from anywhere, and my modem config page will be accessible...just wondering if just changing my pwd will be the solution (though haven't changed it yet) :wub: DSL 502T has the feature of DMZ, but just wondering if it would really work, as in my case, there's only one PC, anyhow!!!

No problem coolbuddy, but have u seen the "DSL-502T Firmware" thread ? It says that repeated configuration change locks up the router ! :angry: Just set the IP of the only PC u are having in DMZ, but remember to install good AV and Firewall in the PC as it will then be open to the Internet as it will function as a web server or such like that.

hey idiot, when did i talk about frequent "configuration changes"???????????and if i install an AV and a firewall, my system would take ages to get up...so i'd rather be happy without it, for the time being...in case i need to host a server, i'll think about that options...thanks anyway...

Talking to the sales guy here in BLR, he says he can offer me a router for Rs.1000 deposit + 199/month rental or to buy it outright for Rs.3000. Yep the price has come down from Rs.6000+ for a plain vanilla ADSL router, no wireless nothing

And that was when enquiring about the 128k unlimited home plan. Or i can get the ethernet yozan for Rs.99/month (no sec deposit). I plan to try the yozan out to see how it goes before springing for a new router.

Might just get a m8 form the US to get me one, they are going there for peanuts or Rs.6000 (with wireless option).
