That is what should be the case, but like I mentioned before, they don't officially quote their upload speeds or the fact that is it symmetic anywhere.

I was told it's symmetric when I went in for the connection. Nothing in writing though. And, interestingly, upload is 1/8th if you take fixed IP on fibre!

^ True, considering the mismatch in pricing on their website and the pamphlets ;)

they can give symmetric upload & download only on FTTH. on ADSL/ADSL2+ the max upload possible is only 1mbps. it is 2-3mbps if it is on VDSL/VDSL2

Are you sure it's VDSL? Airtel keeps referring to it as Fibernet, but after reading the above posts I'm starting to wonder. VDSL does seem to have decent upload speeds, so hopefully shouldn't be too far off from Fiber.

On a side note, has anyone in Chennai actually got these high speed plans running or is it on paper only?
cause

Yes, because I got new VDSL modem and the telephone line is still copper . HG630a Huwei modem

@Vjvg: Where do you live? Noone from Airtel came to my place after informing me on 7th that I'll be migrated to 40 mbps within 48 hours.

So far this month, I've been called 3 times regarding this migration, And yet, no one has come to my home to do the needful.

If and when they do the migration, it'll be VDSL. They'll change the port at their backend and replace the modem at my place. The same copper cable will be used.

I was informed of this, applied for it on Oct 01, After intense followup, on 9th they laid the underground cable, fixed the box on my compound wall. One step pending which is taking the line inside. Everyday it is said would be done today and unsurprisingly its not done. Let s see if that changes any time soon
