ADSL2+ theoretically supports max 24mbps. practically it is only possible if your line quality is excellent and you live right next to the dslam/exchange. btw Airtel is shifting to VDSL2 with vectoring to support speeds >16 mbps

does it include other tier 2 cities in South or only Chennai?
anyways was told the same by Airtel support when I requested for disconnection hence decided to stick around Airtel
till they make the switch.now on 475+taxes with free calls.

I am planning to go for an Airtel connection - Rs1240(taxes) for 75GB and 8 Mbps. Will my speed be automatically increased or should I wait and switch to Airtel afterwards?
 
the switch between adsl and vdsl will not be automatic. vdsl requires a different modem/router and i am not sure if Airtel is supplying vdsl compatible modem/router currently...
 
The roll out for VDSL, if it happens, will probably take weeks/months, maybe years.
Also, to be eligible for VDSL, you may need to be within a certain radius of the exchange/DSLAM.
In short, too many unknown factors at this time.

If you can get 8 Mbit/s now, my suggestion is to take it.
 
Do we need a VDSL modem to get that speed?:oops:

Im OK with the current 16 mbps download speed. What i really need is a decent upload speed. Hope VDSL would solve that issues.

Unfortunately, there is no sure way for us to know if all exchanges in Chennai, and the rest of India, will get it any time soon.

I'll believe it when all airtel subscribers (all over India) can upgrade to VDSL in 2016.
If they manage to do it, it would be great.
