Wow! This forum has started attracting a lot of drama-queens!! :madness:(and this is not a personal attack on any one person here).

If you are getting 512kbps UL at 1499, then how does it matter if Airtel has (perhaps by mistake) published 512kbps at 1999 and at 3333? More shockingly, is this something to get upset and angry over?!? Ridiculous!

Actually mate.... when talking about local cablewallas you have a certain threshold for mistakes... but for large corporates like Airtel who manage their own Call Center and have millions of people to work... there is no room for mistakes... Either they (Airtel) are too dumb.... Or we are!!!!! :madness:

And I guess there's no problem in being melodramatic if there is such insanity revolving around you!!

^^^

its for home users only...

I think management will be an interesting career.. you can just kick customers a** whenever and how hard you want and get paid for that

I'm on the right track... hope that airtel comes for campus in whatever bschool I end up... :D

_

Koreans should visit India... I'm sure they will die if they use Internet here

I wish I could marry a Korean girl and move to seoul :ashamed:
or will sweden be a better choice  :D

_

Agree with you... :) Tell me which B-School ur going... coz I'm gonna have to learn the trick to milk customers till you start milking their blood out!!!

And about Koreans.... yeah there is a hell load of koreans at Hyundai Motors plant @ Chennai. They have a 10Mbps broadband from Airtel some corporate BB I guess... I wuz there 4 sumtime... so I know!!! And believe me... u never wanna go out with a korean girl....!!! Better Go with ur Sweden plan!! :P

@Amuthan: Not sure what you mean.

Are you saying that one should be more patient with cablewallahs because they are notoriously shoddy in their service and responding to complaints and problems, while on the other hand, one should be less tolerant of any small mistake (even though it doesn't affect our lives at all) at the hands of a company with a reputation of good service and customer care (relatively speaking at least)?

Or are you saying that since Cablewallahs are small entities they are bound to make more mistakes, and companies like Airtel, since they are huge and employ 'millions of people' will make less mistakes? Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it easier for a small group of people to get their act together, than to manage and organize a gigantic mass of people?

IMHO with increasingly complexity in Society, we are becoming increasingly intolerant to others' mistakes. In addition, there is some warped sense of entitlement that is really disturbing.

My short point: It's fine to criticize policy decisions on part of Airtel. I criticized them when they came up with the 1999 plan for overpricing, and similarly, I would admit that this seems to be a case of overpricing as well (if not a typo). But to start spewing out abuses, and getting all emotional seems to me to be a rather poor and immature way to deal with it.

I totally agree with you vebk... Well my point is not that we need to tolerate with cablewallas because they are small entity or that they are shoddy in customer service... My point, my friend, is that Airtel has a seperate Marketing team, Sales Team, HR Team, Advising committee, Experienced Networking Engineers and Technical Team... With so many teams splitting up the work and your asking room for errors? If such an error had happend in any of the developed countries some guy would have won millions suing the company for providing misleading information on their website? And since, in India we are worrying about price hike of petrol and LPG we hardly have any time to sue the company...

Abridgement: I am not against that there shouldn't be any typos.. Of course there could be typos liek thsi oen! But not typos that could cause misleading information! Tht is my point buddy.

Well I agree with you on this point... But think about this... Your monthly bill arrives and instead of Rs.1200 it gets mis-printed as Rs.1400 and the same error has prolly happend in their backend too... So would you sit in a chair, relax and sip a drink and say "Dude, there's always room for mistakes..."? Well its a simple mistake only... But that has cost you Rs.200. Mistakes (no matter in magnitude) always cause chaos and confusion... If not in cash.. in some other form... We have started so many threads in this forum to discuss about this issue.... Don't you think we've felt the impact of this typo? Me and u having this discussion is a significance of a simple typing error..... :)

But to start spewing out abuses, and getting all emotional seems to me to be a rather poor and immature way to deal with it.
Hmmmm...... Alright that is true.... And now after reading the posts once again... It really feels immature!! :P
But wht the heck??? I'm still an adamant child!!! ;) I need Broadband.... not unlimited but with limits that I could use up in a month rather than limits that I would end using up in a couple of hours/minutes prolly!! :)

Cheers,
Amuthan.

@ SaneeshYes... I still think Rs.1500 bucks for 512 is waaayyy too much... when compared to south asian countries like Singapore, Korea, Japan and Taiwan. I'd say Rs.999 for 2Mbps with 30GB Data Transfer as a decent plan...

i think we need to wait for these plans in custom by next 5 years :(

i thought revolution on BB came when TATA -indicom introduced 2 mbps night UL :( but it turned to be a lame :(

i heared from one of my friends (senior techi) in airtel ,,,that soon all speeds will be doubled with no increase in money before summer of 2008 ..but dont know how far its true :)

i hope my grand children will be able to download 9 GB DVD in 2 minutes :D

and ofcourse i too can fill my external HDD with HQ movies ;)

Maybe.... But it'd be ideal if we got them now!! :yahoo:

This my friend is a very old news.... When 2007 was born everyone went dreaming that this would happen and finally are satisfied with 512k for Rs.1499/month!! :(

i hope my grand children will be able to download 9 GB DVD in 2 minutes :D

and ofcourse i too can fill my external HDD with HQ movies ;)

Maybe your Great grand children's Great Grand child would do that... by that time American people would be downloading like 20 HD Movies in 2 Minutes...

Agreed- they should not be making such errors. It's very unprofessional. Luckily for them, looking at other companies, the standard set is not very high.

If such an error had happend in any of the developed countries some guy would have won millions suing the company for providing misleading information on their website? And since, in India we are worrying about price hike of petrol and LPG we hardly have any time to sue the company...
Disagreed- We have a very skewed perspective in India about Americans being trigger-happy about suing. You have t remember that lawyers are very expensive there, and people don't file lawsuits as often as they change underwear. It's just that some of the more absurd ones get the attention of the international media, and newspapers like TOI especially love running such trashy news.
To give you an analogy, to assume that all Americans are ready to sue at the drop of a hat, is like saying that you will be prosecuted, and your effigies will be burnt in the street if you kiss a woman on the cheek in India (I am referring to the Richard Gere-Shilpa Smelly thing of course).

Coming back to the topic, you can only sue Airtel for misprinting anything on their website if it causes you any damage or loss. And that would clearly not be the case here, since even if they misreported their packages, cc staff would clear up that misinformation once you call them up to switch plans.

Well I agree with you on this point... But think about this... Your monthly bill arrives and instead of Rs.1200 it gets mis-printed as Rs.1400 and the same error has prolly happend in their backend too...
Exactly! Here you would have suffered a loss on account of their error, so you would have a cause of action. However, chances are that they would clear up the error once you inform them of the mistake, so again, you would not have to go to court.

Yes... I still think Rs.1500 bucks for 512 is waaayyy too much... when compared to south asian countries like Singapore, Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
I know it sucks, but the way I think of it is that one has to think of these things relative to the country you live in. As I have said time and again, sure we pay more for broadband, but think of the difference in prices of Tandoori Chicken in India and in New York - We win!

Well here's hoping your friend knows what he's talking about!!!

Well that's something new to me... and to be even more childish and immature I was careful not to mention USA!! :P I hear Americans change their underwear not to frequently either!! :hysterical:

And tht really happend in India.... !! :)

Agree strongly.... :)

This I don't understand... we get American Food for Rs.200 too... How can you compare something consumable by a huge popluation with something accessible to and by a select population? I mean there must be more Tandoori Chicken fans than Broadband in India and US... but the thing is chicken is cheaper in the states but the masala toppings exported from India is expensive.... :P

Nice Discussion... and u reminded me of Tandoori chicken and now I'm hungry!!!  (jus kiddin)

Phew... that was a serious exercise to my fingers and eyes... now lemme concentrate on my tongue and stomach!! ;)

Cheers,
Amuthan.
