Hello,

I presently have a BSNL connection which disconnects quite frequently (low SNR). I am thinking of jumping ship to Airtel.

Does Airtel use the same exchange/DSLAM as BSNL or do they have their exchange? Incase of the former it wont help me since the current line isnt very good.

I am based in Lucknow/UP East.

Thanks

mmm airtel would lay down its own wiring if that's what you are asking.

Airtel has seperate Network Element + DSLAM throughout India,set up in Collaboration with ALcatel Lucent, FYI In India last mile infrastructure is not usually shared by ISP's unlike North American ISP's. So the proposed new connection would have different Wiring ,Line Set,Root and nodes everything.

Had they borrowed BSNL's infrastructure than it would have meant double tragedy for Customers as well as Airtel.

From my own experience in the field of ISP networking unlike Reliance Broadband, Airtel does not have Power Cut issues, since the Dry Cell batteries for power back up are secured within the DSLAM premises. While Reliance Broadband 's back up batteries are humbly placed into Roadside Junction Boxes (typical steel Almirahs Sky Blue or Grey Coloured) of RCOM logo branding. Which are vulnerable to theft.

While BSNL is another saga of poor after sales service,lack of ambition to serve consumers. According to BSNL ,their Bureaucrat is always right,and customer is idiot.

@rajil.s

If they don't solve the SNR and fix the connection do switch to Airtel or some other service. I am one of their customer who suffers a lot

BSNL also does not seem to have power cut downtime issues.

Yup... probably they have Power Grid based Hotline facilities (just like Govt. Universities),since the Department of Telecom days,before it was rechristened as BSNL.

Eventually they don't have power issues,but Ego issues. One of my friend visited a BitchSNL exchange to inquire about nano sim,and he was cross interrogated for demanding a nano-sim,the way cops handle an Arms License or Passport inquiry..

The Babu's were like "Why do you need a nano-sim" ? "What will you do with a nano-sim" ? "Do you really have an I-Phone " Kya karoge Nano-sim lay kay, tumhaare paas kaunsa I-phone hai ? Chal bhaag.... (What would you do with a nano-sim If you don't have an I-Phone?)

Perhaps according to these "enlightened" Babu's and Beebiz,only I-phone holders are entitled to nano-sim.

After a month of using Airtel services, there was an incident. Around 150 users were out of connectivity since 3 days.

In my area, Airtel uses 10 year old equipments. Slowly they reduce the load and install new equipments for nearby areas where they offer 8 mbps connections. For me it is 2mbps.
