4-5 kBps

and 12-32 KBPS in edge area .

What is edge area and how can a common man know he is in edge area ?

if u have an 247kbps class 10 edge enabled phones u'll get speeds of upto 247kbps... i used it... IMP : not all phones have 247kbps edge class 10... refer this-----------------------Ericsson and Sony Ericsson support Class 8 (4+1) and Class 10 (4+2, max of 5)whereas most Nokia devices are limited to slower Class 2 (2+1) (new phones come with class 10)Class 4 (3+1), and Class 6 (3+2, max 4). Motorola has both Class 4 and Class 8 devices. (The first number is the max downlink slots, and the number after the "+" is the max uplink slots.) This can translate into a substantial differencein throughput -- if supported by the carrier:- Class 4 or Class 6 is 50% faster on downlink than Class 2- Class 8 or Class 10 is 100% faster on downlink than Class 2,33% faster on downlink than Class 4 or Class 6.- Class 10 can be 100% faster on uplink than Class 2, Class 4, or Class 8.

Hello,

You mean to say that in such a case I'll be able to get Edge speed signals at the rate of GPRS connection :P

I already have Edge 10 on my Nokia N70 but Ive never experienced such Edge speeds of 247 kbps as mentioned by you .

By the way is Edge already present in India ?

What is the difference between Edge and 3G(yet to be launched) in terms of speeds and pricing ?N70 has 3G capability also.

Actually I wish to get rid of wired broadband connection and go for Edge/3G/CDMA broadband whichever is available first in Punjab.

i wont be able to answer all of this...i dont know whats the situation in punjab but here in mumbai i get 247kbps for sure... i downloaded dozens of GBs already...EGDE IS PRESENT IN INDIA BECAUSE I USE IT!!! lolwhereas 3G is not available in india... 3G enabled phones have already became available... theoretically, egde class 10 claims to offer 247kbps which airtel delivers perfectly...3G claims to offer speeds of upto 2mbps...lets see whats happens when 3G is launched in india and who offers what speeds on it...about pricing on 3G services... well i don't know if they'll cash in on it or if it'll go the same way as egde has gone...

So you have Edge in Mumbai !That's good .What about the pricing or monthly rates ?How much do you pay per month for Airtel Edge service ?
