also, i'm not sure about this but i read this in my phone's manuals that ur phone will choose an edge connection over a normal gprs connection if ur service providers provides u with an edge connection...
you cannot switch or choose a normal gprs connection instead of edge... u don't have this option. which is good.
manuals refer this as GPRS / EPGRS
first one is slow and the other one is fast...
when u connect ur phone and it shows a boxed "G" sign, this means ur on a normal 33.6-48kbps gprs connection but if your phone shows a boxed "E" then its EGPRS... this obviously means u have EDGE...
NOTE : theres no assured 247kbps speed from airtel... depends upon traffic... but if your phone does show "E" when connected, then i suggest u connect ur phone at 3.00am in the night just to prove my theory right...
performance is poor... the response time is horrendous... i'm not at all satisfied with the surfing... when i click a link it takes time to finally connect to the server but once its connected it brings back the data at ok speeds... so downloading is the only option i have here...
when i tried to upload a 50mb file to mediafire.com, my computer hanged... i tried it again after reboot, but again the same thing happened... i did a search and found out that ur upload is around 1/6 ur download... lol
airtel is promoting it mobile office internet service nationally (meaning the same service everwhere) so i doubt if there is a such thing as "edge" and "non-edge" area.
