SpeedOf.Me Test Result

Finally after alot of drama i got upgraded to FTTH.
its blazinggg fast. :)
Which router do you have, and what about the speed on 2.4ghz on your mobile.

I had literally the same issue with the plan change, usually Airtel plans take "2 hours" as per the 121 team, but in reality within 20-30 mins the plan is changed over without much issue, billing is pro-rata and pretty fair to users / airtel as well.

When I had requested a change to the new plan, they told me the same 2 hours, 1 odd thing I noticed this time is I did not get any SMS for the change -- usually you get an SMS when the change is approved/added in etc.

Anyways, it was late in the day (10 PM? or 11 PM) so I tried the next day and no change in plan.

So I called again and was told that I have to change the router to support 200 Mbps and have to pay 900 for this, now I'm using a non-airtel provided router and told them I will continue to use that and just change the plan as the Huawei ONT supports upto 1000 Mbps/1Gbps. The person passed on my call to their supervisor, confirmed the Huawei model etc and said OK everything will be done by tomorrow 11 AM

Repeat the above paragraph x 3-4 times across the next 3-4-5 days, got the same assurances, same "We have noted it on the ticket, it will be done, it is approved etc, It is assigned to a different team etc"

Then I gave up and wrote an email to [email protected] with everything in it, my Huawei model# and got a call the next day and the plan finally got changed over.

Not sure why Airtel does this always really with their routers/modems and cause confusion,

When vFiber (VDSL) connections were being setup, the first batch of users got a nice Huawei modem which was far more stable than the Binatone ones, the Binatone one needed a reboot so often to stay in working.. maybe I got a bad piece.. every time I complained I got a message saying they'll replace it but Huawei is not available.

When FTTH connections were being setup, a few(?) users got a better Huawei ONT which had WiFi etc inbuilt, later on they provided a non-wifi huawei model, They even provided a D-Link Router which connects to the Huawei ONT which already supports both 2 Ghz and 5 Ghz bands, not sure why they are so keen on changing these so often

Recently got a new connection and this is the "new" router they are providing. It is some unbranded China made one. While speeds when router is visible is good, once you move away it drops like crazy. 2.4 Ghz band is useless since I get around 2-4 mbps from my plan's 200 mbps. Plus, it has a continuous noise, not sure if that is the case with all the ONTs. Oh and also, activating this thing took over 7 hours since it kept rebooting and the backend cannot activate it, it has to be done manually.

Sucks to hear that Airtel is providing flaky cheap fiber modems now :-(

Woah! It seems I have been lucky enough to get a Huawei one. It's been kept switched on for over 5 months now without any reboots and no hiccups so far. But doesn't Airtel replace modems if the one they provide is buggy? I mean, obviously these new ones are flaky and don't work well🙁

Is it like a electrical/sparking sound from the plug point or something? Is it getting hot to touch etc? I mean, from a safety point of view just incase.

The Huawei ones have no sound at all, no fan or anything inside it and no heating either.
