Airtel's 512kbps Unlimited Plan

except that the promised speed is about half the advertised "upto" speed.

Just spoke to the customer care at Airtel. They have come up with the 1999 plan with unlimited data d/l at 512 KBPS speed. However, they do have sum fine print clauses. You cannot put a router on it, no static IP, no sharing allowed and its out n out broadband plan. You cannot have a voice plan along with this broadband plan. I'm new here...but I Hope the above info helps...

Airtel Broadband has a 512 kbps unlimited data transfer plan?

ic guys .. so i can close the current landline airtel phone iam having to reduce the extra bills ? and on 512 iam only getting spees like 390-400kbps which is very bad and asked on customer care they simply says that max so iam simply going to quit airtel ... and hows tata indicom guys ? i heard they offering 512kbps for 1850 per month.. any taughts:(

err..i dont think switching to tata will be worth it as the downtime can be considerable. There is maybe just 1 or 2 guys that say they like tat indicom, and maybe 20 with nightmare stories. Do you feel lucky :)search the forum for 'experiences' with tata indicom.

@fusion123, Umm, how do they know whether you have put a router or not? And by 'sharing' do you mean sharing the connection between multiple computers (such as on a WiFi network) or file sharing?

exactly, only way they can enforce this is by using client side software and AFAIK Airtel does not do this.

The usual reason is they don't want ppl using home connections for offices ie sharing or reselling it.

As for crazysah's experiences hehe, either as you say or he is a tata employee/related to one.

Yepp...I totally agree with blr_p...there is no way they can find out whether I've put a router on my connection. Guess what they mean is that Airtel will not provide any routers from their side on this plan...tht's the max they can do. The only thing is no telephone plan...so as long as u dont use the landline services..its gud...but for 1999 for 512 kbps...which wont double at nite, I'd stick to my 256 kbps home 999 plan

^ I think Airtel is increasingly becoming a sinking ship - not sure why suddenly after years of good service and dare I say, leading the market, they are now regressing to terrible plans and policy. I would imagine there is either some change in management with some idiots now running the helm, or perhaps Bharti needs Airtel BB to make more money to support their other ventures.Either way I am now keeping an eye open to other options, and if and when I change I intend to make it plenty clear to them why I would be abandoning them.
