To all members here who are residents of Mumbai / Thane / Navi Mumbai:Has anyone ever seen any infrastructure related activity of Hayai in your city? Like laying fibres etc. In somebody's neighbourhood or maybe while travelling around the city. Kindly post the location if anyone has seen something. If MGC says that he could launch within 2-3 weeks of getting permissions then there has to be some activity on the ground. Otherwise how is it possible? To MGC:You have been continuously mentioning that your papers are not being approved by the babus and you are being unfairly treated. You must have heard of RTI, right? File an application to the relevant dept. to find out the status of your application and why is it being held up.

As I've mentioned in previous posts (well... probably a few months ago now), rollout has been going on between Vikhroli and Mulund. Anyone who lives in the Northern-Central suburbs probably will have noticed some trucks rolling out last-mile fiber through both new and existing conduits. Our points of presence in other parts of the city are just points of presence which are reached using existing fiber, and have not had much of the last-mile fiber rolled out yet.

To MGC:

You have been continuously mentioning that your papers are not being approved by the babus and you are being unfairly treated. You must have heard of RTI, right? File an application to the relevant dept. to find out the status of your application and why is it being held up.

I don't believe I'm being unfairly treated. I understand the position and the rules regarding foreign ownership of a telecoms company, however there is no way I can predict how long these things take. Usually they are telling me what is holding things up, however more often than not it is the incorrect regulation being applied to my paperwork by some clerk. In one case it was even so ridiculous a reason: they thought my paperwork was not properly notarized and rejected the application, and I spent a month proving that it had in fact been done correctly, after which it was approved.

I feel that filing an RTI claim would be pointless because not only do I usually know roughly what the delays are, receiving the results of the filing would probably take longer to receive than solving the actual problem - I've received notifications of things by mail and email as much as 2 months after I already knew the outcome by speaking to an actual person.

Part of the issue is that they have to process applications in 5 or 6 separate steps - each taking 1 or 2 weeks here and there, plus postage times (7-10 days in some cases), and if something gets delayed, this just adds to the time, rather than my being able to file ALL the paperwork at once.

Ummm, I also have some doubts.. not that I am pin pointing him.1) He says there are 3 directors, why do we never hear abt them in papers or anywhere..are they not helping him? May be they are just financial supporters and will only come in light if Hayai launches.2) I was surprised yesterday when i read that hayai is not launched in NZ. Reason he now gives is that he is feasibility testing... but i was under impression that its already launched like 6 month back .... so how come its still under testing?3) How can a business not have proper website? Even if its not launched officially, it shud atleast have some info esp. when its going to be such a big launch.4) If it took so many months to test in NZ.. how much will same take in India?

1) He says there are 3 directors, why do we never hear abt them in papers or anywhere..are they not helping him? May be they are just financial supporters and will only come in light if Hayai launches.

Actually 4 now, soon 6. 1 of the current and 1 of the future are purely financial supporters (and our CEO). 1 of the future directors is a CTO. The other 2 that are current are our HR managers and CFO.

I would say that they reasons they don't appear in the papers is because they don't know as much about the technical side of things, which us usually what questions are about. If anyone wishes to interview them, they can.

2) I was surprised yesterday when i read that hayai is not launched in NZ. Reason he now gives is that he is feasibility testing... but i was under impression that its already launched like 6 month back .... so how come its still under testing?

6 months ago I hadn't even formed the company in NZ. I only did that in September 2010.

3) How can a business not have proper website? Even if its not launched officially, it shud atleast have some info esp. when its going to be such a big launch.

Why should we have a proper website when we're barely in testing? Most companies with products in this stage have a signup form with a "we'll let you know when we launch".

4) If it took so many months to test in NZ.. how much will same take in India?

It's been in testing in NZ now for only a couple of weeks. Even in NZ there have been many delays because the NZ government is building it's own FTTH network and many of the companies I'm dealing with need to know what their roles are in that network (if any) before they'll make a move on any private enterprise. And I can understand why: $1.5 billion versus however much I throw at them (probably a lot less than $1.5 billion).

In India, we can't even test officially with users (that would violate the rules about running the operation), but the infrastructure is at a far more advanced stage. The testing that needs to be done has been done, but unfortunately the infrastructure is currently sitting there doing nothing. When we can launch, we we will.

well u have a rough idea when u r going into a country what to expect..its not that u are absolutely taken by surprise and that there are babu's sitting out there just with the sole aim of not allowing u to launch..all we get to hear is country is sh*t..system is sh*t.. there is discrimination and what not..agreed there might be some difficulties but each country has its peculiarities...u have to work with them and get ur job done..u cant put the whole blame on the system when ur own house is not in order. Going by the scenario that has been portrayed as existing in india, one would think that it was impossible to get business done here..

Hmm.. thanks for reply.

Haha. Sometimes it seems that way. The main issue I'm facing is that, unlike the other foreign operators (Etisalat and MTS), I don't have the respective governments backing me (UAE and Russia), and I also don't have the proven track record of actually being an operator. Oh, and I also don't have billions of dollars yet.

There have been some things which have taken me by surprise, but we work through them as best we can. I don't expect any concessions - the rules are not mine to make. However, it's hard to deny that the rules aren't a big fat pain in the ass and certainly aren't helping us launch any quicker.

I don't think the babus are sitting there plotting against me - they're just taking all the necessary precautions considering the above. It's a massive operation that we're undertaking here and naturally it's up to me to prove I'm worth my salt, and when the green-light is given, we'll be able to do all these great things I've been talking about.

From Hayai.in website.
Hayai Broadband. India's Fastest Internet.
So tell me, why shud you claim yourself to be fastest when it doesnt even exist? And that's written there from around 1 year I guess.

What tagline would you suggest?

Now you are talking.... if I am not wrong... you (intertionaly OR unintentionally) created impression earlier that its all Indian governments fault all these 2 years.. clearly u have been telling half stories!
