Apple MacBook Updates

umm. i have worked on a mac. and i know what i am getting into.

and since i am going to purchase it from the US, i won't be paying much of a premium...

the question is how to get online on it wirelessly! :)
Very easy to connect wirelessly on Macbook
the data cards of Tata and Reliance need a Express to PCMCIA adaptor. Your friend can buy it from the US. Duel Adaptor.

The drivers for the Huawei card for Mac are available on the net... can send you the link in a couple of days (I have to look for it again)

The Reliance USB modem for wireless connection works beautifully also. Again, Mac drivers for this are available on the net.

Don't bother asking Tata or Reliance guys at all. Their only response is "we support Windoze ". The last time I called one of them up, they had no clue about Email queries cause I was using Thunderbird instead of Outlook ......
Hope this helps

heh no issues... i am delaying my decision to go for a macbook pro till the end of the year. Apple is likely to update the notebook range after launching leopard.would get an inspiron in the meanwhile.

You can get pirated Leopard from torrents easily after a few days of official release. Also, Apple /might/ give Leopard for free to you if you purchased the macbook within 2 or 3 weeks of release. Ask the tata indicom and other guys for expresscard (or sth). AFAIK, Apple portables don't come with PCMCIA. Apple product warranty for portables are always worldwide.

grrr. i have already decided on the Dell i am going to buy. and its going to be RED just like my SWIFT. i hope the dell does not start rattling like my car does :Dand we do not talk about pirated software here.

so which Dell model are you getting? and you are ALSO going to get a macbook pro later? what will you do with 2 laptops?(i shouldnt be asking coz i'll soon have 2 desktops and 2 laptops at home myself, might give my current desktop to my aunt) :)

if i get a mac later this year i would give my Dell to my cousin who uses an ancient thinkpad for email, documentation and photos for his work. i mean i would get a fair price from him to fund my next purchase :Di am getting a dell 2.2 GHz, 4 Gig RAM, 160 HDD, 256 MB Nvidia yada yada... 15.4 though. dropped the idea for a 17" i need better battery life for it. and i already have a 19" at home which would go waste otherwise. :)getting means i have not ordered it yet. but still working on getting myself to do it... i usually hate my impulse decisions to buy stuff.

ah, for 4gb ram you'll need a 64bit OS which might have driver and application compatibility issues :)the Dell xps m1330 is a nice little beast...

could not find any good deal on a 3GB version. found a 17" version with 2GB RAM... still considering that one.

Airtel's Data card will work on Mac or Linux.

What will NOT work is the App that helps you set up that card. So you will have to figure out some things yourself.

Otherwise this PCMCIA card emulates a POTS modem. So any command line dialer can "dial up" a connection on that card thru AT commands. Airtel worked fine with Slackware for me, will work with Mac OS as well.

Contrary to popular belief, Apple is NOT a rich man's toy. Show me a laptop out there with 250 GIG Harddrive, 2+ GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 GB RAM Laptop which gets shipped for about 78,000 INR. Apple does.
