Hardware solution
-----------------
SMPS powers the internal devices such as HDD, DVD Drive, FDD, Sys Fan etc.
likewise supply power to modem from SMPS itself.
Modem takes 10V 550mA input. Yellow and Black wire from SMPS gives 12V output. with a simple connector pin and with 2 meters of wire, you can easily connect SMPS's output to Modem's power input pin.
[Note: Modem's adapter is UNused]
Problem with this techniq?

Instead of 10 Volts we supply 12 Volts to modem.
=> 2V extra wont harm and its works perfect.
if you think 2V extra MAY harm, then you can use 7810mosfet transistor in series with SMPS's 12v power line to modem. 7810 cuts off the voltage above 10V.
oops !
Overload to SMPS.
=> its like connecting extra fan to chasis - no overload to SMPS
Advantage of this hardware solution

> Modem turns ON only when computer[SMPS] is ON
> Modem goes OFF if you shutdown/hibernate your computer
> Simple connection and costs just 10 to 20 Rupees for both connector and wire
> Saves power by turning OFF the modem when computer's SMPS is OFF
Disadvantage of this hardware solution

> StandBy wont turn OFF modem !!
> Suitable only for personel desktop computer.
> Its NOT suitable when you have multiple computers connected to single modem with/without wire.
Caution!

Do not short-circuit the SMPS output, use insulatons where ever possible.
