Automating MTNL NU Downloading

Yup, any sort of scripting will work well for this purpose but with a caution, as I have been running scripts using the windows scheduler:

1. In the MTNL server in Delhi, server time is ahead by around 15 minutes, so either match your comp time to it or set your scheduler to kick in 15 mins earlier.

2. Most of the torrent downloaders, have an inbuilt scheduler, which can be set for the allowed range. I have found utorrent to be good. Outside the schedule, it will totally stop, even DHT. Not a single byte gets DL/UL. Coupled with the reboot will save you unnecessary billing.

3. The MTNL server may not record the reboot everytime. I have been checking this for some time now and I am sure there is a big bug in their usage recording setup. What I actually DL is much more than what is captured on the site.

4. To take care of point 3, I schedule a reboot twice at the start and end each, followed by a forced shut down in the morning.

Another thing that may be of concern to the security concious. The site for checking usage is totally unsecured. When you login, the login/password is visible in the url string. This can be used to break into your account, fiddle with your mail etc etc.....The url goes in the form:

http://register.bol.net.in/htmlui_new/login_verify.jsp?login="UR TEL NO IS HERE"&password=YOUR_PASSWORD IS VISIBLE HERE&xmlPath=%2Fopt%2FJBoss%2Fjboss-4.0.5.GA%2Fserver%2Fminimal%2Fdeploy%2Fwebkit.ear%2Fwebkit_delhi.war%2Fhtmlui_en%2FConfig.xml&service=mtnl%2Fadsl&sessionState=start&page=login_verify&Component=com.portal.web.comp.PLoginBeanImpl

Cheers

Forget the scheduler... the easiest way out is to make your modem to work in bridge mode and then making the connection to the internet via your computer....
This way all you have to do is reboot your computer instead of your modem and the disastrous results wont occur

No need to reboot your PC to connect / disconnect in Bridge mode. Just use rasdial as explained here : https://broadband.forum/mtnl-broadband/3647-no-more-automatic-disconnection-12-am/#post37730

Even I am facing a similar problem....I am on vacation for a fortnight....So I am in dire need of the "Timed Switch"Somebody having any clue about that please help:wall::wall::wall:

I use a digital timer switch. Its an imported timer with an in built digital clock and various on-off combinations. Its easy to operate and 100% effective. My modem/pc are switched on every night at 12:30 and switched off at 7:30 am in the morning. It can also be used to automate other appliances of your house like outdoor lights, fountains, water pumps etc. I made it myself with the help of an engineer friend and the imported timer bought from Delhi. I can make the same for anyone desirous of it and ship to anywhere in India for around Rs. 2000. Please do let me know if any one is interested.- Rajan

Man...thats expensive:ashamed:

I am on vacation for a fortnight....

:wall::wall::wall:
Will I screw my router(DSL-502T) if I keep it on for a fortnight ??

ofcourse a timed switch will be an expensive solution. i personally think its not worth it.there wont be a problem if you keep it on for that long.

Yup! its expensive, the timer device itself costs over Rs. 1000. But its worked perfectly for me since almost 2 years. In my case I didnt have any other choice because my pc tends to hang everytime i try to reset the modem thru telnet or any other scripting tool.
