these are mostly older generation viruses and worms. all package into a RAR file so that they are pretty much locked up and would not harm on simple downloading.

well the eicar file is not a real virus. it only tells you if your antivirus is working or not. the file i have has actual worms in it confickr even. and some old ones. just scan the RAR file to see if your antivirus can detect them. DO NOT RUN ANYTHING THAT IS INSIDE IT.

when i tried to download the rar file,this is what i got

yup i have read from above threads but bottom line is that mine is given warning after going to that download url. well that's nice it warn about sites with malicious contents using kaspersky pure

Microsoft Security Essentials detected all the viruses on running a scan.

hehe. it is hard to say if it detected 'all' the malware in that file or any file.
