Yesterday the lok sabha was adjourned over an issue of probable corruption ( over Rs.1 lakh crore) in the 2g and 3g spectrum auction by the honourable telecom minister Mr. A. Raja ...

Here are the news links:
2G Spectrum allocation disrupts parliament - Yahoo! India News
Uproar in Parliament over 2G spectrum allocation - India - The Times of India

Many politicians brought up protest demanding the sacking of the minister ( i hope they do) ... because since he has been minister from end of 2008 no major developments has been happening in the telecom industry ... but if the sack him the next probable candidate is Mr. Dayanidhi maran who has done an excellent job previously in 2006 & 2007 of bringing bsnl broadband and one India plan and revolutionised the Indian Telecom industry ...

So keep your fingers crossed that they sack Mr. Raja and bring him in...

I hope if he comes in with the trai and bsnl under his control we could see drastic revolutionisation( hopefully a bsnl 100 Mbps plan by year end or atleast 2 mbps unlimited for 700 rs) ...

WOW, that could turn up to be awesome :D

Mahahaha! My plan has finally come to fruition. On a serious note - this is just speculation. Although the potential always existed, no one knows how to utilize it. Major reforms are difficult for any government. But unfortunately reforms for us means disabling the corruption nexus existing in all forms of the government and public sectors. Which will reduce the "rozi roti" for these politcians. And i dont see that happening in my lifetime.

The highlighted bit is wishful thinking, but just reading this bit made me want to blow hope bubbles.

I am waiting for the day hi-speed internet will no longer rip a hole in the pockets of the aam aadmi. Decent internet in this country is too unjustifiably expensive. So even people like me who are heavy users and pine for a blazing fast connection cannot always afford to shell out something like 2k even, for a 2mbps + plan (in general, not referring to any ISP)... I am but a poor fledgling writer.

i am not sure why Dayanidhi Maran is so highly regarded as the man behind a pseudo broadband revolution in india. from what i remember... he just gave us some stupid plans like 2 mbps with 500MB data transfers on bsnl/mtnl? i am not sure. of course, i am no fan of mr. raja. the current 3G auctions scare me as the high prices are going to be reflective on the prices of the services that would be offered to us.

Hey, it might force the wholesale prices down, allowing us to do stuff like 5mbit/s flat-rate at Rs1000 or so :)

I should try and get a meeting with the upcoming minister if it happens.

That would be my Utopia.

Can you pronounce Eyjafjallajokull?

Can you pronounce Eyjafjallajokull?

[OFFTOPIC TANGENT]Icelandic and Finnish are completely different. Finnish is pronounced phoenetically (like Japanese, making it very easy to learn how to spell), while Icelandic is... far from it. I think it's more linguistically closer to Norwegian which is quite close to Swedish (Finland's other official language) and Danish.

Written properly it's actually Eyjafjallajökull - the umlauted o makes all the difference - and while I have heard news presenters pronounce it as Ei-yaf-yal-la-ju-kull, it would be more correct to say it kind of like "eya-fyat-la-yökl".

I took Icelandic lessons a couple of years ago because I was planning to go there. So short answer, yes. It's not that hard.

Try saippuakuppinippukauppias on for size. Or anything in Estonian, like perekonnaseisuametnikult. Or another Icelandic favourite gróðursetjum, fjarlægjum or laufblöðin.
