Broadband Surprises with Airtel (Free upgrades for everyone)

@India_King Ok. Cool. I will give it a try. Please keep me informed if you come across anything.

Btw this true unlimited is not being put to best use by me. Download kar kar ke thaak gaya mein. 4 TB hard drive bhi full ho gaye hai.

I suspect that Airtel will raise speed to Max speeds available in areas in future (possible close to RJio launch) . Notice that new plans are dependent only on Data limits, speed doesn't matter now. I think Airtel is moving to Data based plans on max feasible speeds.

Yes, i am also not putting unlimited plan to best use. I am not much of a downloader nowdays.

BTW, how did you manage to get 4TB hard drive full. Heavy torrent downloading? Is it?

Got 2 GB free. Not funny.

Anyway that takes my monthly FUP limit to 42 GB. 8 Mbps till 42 GB, 1 Mbps thereafter. 1000 mins. free local calls.

899 INR + taxes per month for all of the above.

I have a 5GB plan because my requirement falls under 5GB usage. If I have more usage, I would take a plan with more bandwidth. 2GB gives me enough breathing space on my existing plan and I think it's great.

It's not Airtel's fault if you are talking a plan that does not have enough bandwidth for your requirements.

Why you don't try retention process? They hand out 10-20 GBs easily on disconnection requests. That will be even better for your breathing space.

And your requirement is not 5 GB because Airtel is your secondary connection.

Because my connection is hardly 4-5 months old. And my requirement is under 5GB. I downgraded from 15GB to 9GB to 5GB. This connection is for my dad. Who needs a reliable connection to track his stocks. I only sometimes use this connection when Reliance is down and I have to get some work done on an emergency basis. I try not to rely on Airtel much because the quality of service is horrible. I upload a lot of stuff on a daily basis and that is kind of a big problem on these shitty Airtel connections. I do not think I would be able to move to Airtel DSL as my primary connection in the near or far future after seeing the quality of connectivity on Reliance Broadband.

@India_King 4TB hard drives full partly due to Hathway and Airtel.

In my previous Hathway connection the FUP was 20GB on 50MBPS, but what happened even after crossing the FUP, the speed did not downgrade and I ended up downloading 500GB in 5 days. This happened 3 times.

My 3TB has been full for a few months now. So I just look at the old stuff and delete shit as I need more space to accommodate non-shit fresh stuff. Though it is becoming quite complicated and I think I would just format the entire disk one day and start fresh. I usually never watch stuff I have already seen before so it's stupid to store stuff for novelty sake.

@chromaniac

Well. You are already in RCom network. So you will likely receive RJio coverage early next year. If RJio Tariff plans & service is good, you can just keep a single connection.

@invader

Lucky you. But what did you exactly download? Movies, Games? PC game can be as big as 50 GB.

I personally don't download much now. Maybe some good movie then & now. That's it.

Though it is becoming quite complicated and I think I would just format the entire disk one day and start fresh.

I am also thinking of doing it.....since last 1 year. But i am too lazy to back up important data, format and clean my PC. I am sure i will do it...someday.

A lot of hope is placed on Jio because BSNL and Airtel do not appear to have any plans to lay down fiber in my area. A BSNL employee told me a few years ago that they had even purchased fiber to lay down in my area but no one ever went ahead with the plan. So I am guessing the money was just eaten away by the system. Airtel of course... is only worried about the new emerging societies where it is cheaper to lay down new network after signing up exclusive deals with the management.

I do plan to get a Jio connection to give it a test with the hope of replacing my Reliance connection with it. I would probably not touch Airtel because I do not expect Reliance Jio to match their quality of service or uptime for many years to come.

BSNL losses last year were 7000 Crore Rupees.

If Rjio makes a decent entry into Broadband market, BSNL will go deeper into misery.

I don't think RJio will have major negative impact on Airtel. Airtel will simply come up with new tariff plans & offers.

I don't know what BSNL will come up with to counter RJio? How will BSNL compete with RJio & Airtel when competition gets tough?
