BSNL 3G
I have been using Reliance Netconnect Broadband + for 6 months or so and very unsatisfied with the download speed especially from torrents that I decided to drop off their services.Even though I live in main city Kolkata,I get a speed as below

http://img121.imageshack.us/i/fullscreencapture117201.jpg/Now on I bought a bsnl 3G prepaid sim expecting a download speed of around 7.1MBPS
I connected the sim with my Nokia E63 handset and too my utter surprise that speed recorded was even pathetic

I have learned from here that using a good 3G data card with 3G sim would give me a good speed. In that perspective I want to know which would be the best datacard for this purpose that should work in Kolkata.

Hi @logmeinI would suggest you Huawei UMG1381 (21MBps). It is one of the finest data card available for 3G network. It may not be available in local market (try finding from Chandni Chowk market area if you are lucky). You also can get it from Ebay India.BSNL is good for 3G. Try getting a fresh and new 3G connection. 1499per month for unlimited data is nice plan under 3G.You may have some network problem or BSNL's own authentiacation problem which causes dtata rate droping even in 3G customer's sim. A new connection would solve it. Or you can try a BSNL 2G sim with RS 8/- recharge(10GB 2 days) which is as accessible as 3G sim in 3G network. Try it. If you are satisfied then convert it to 3g network after 1 day using rechrge of Rs-1/-.Also set network to UMTS only when surfing.

Thanks iitmanojit,
I ordered a datacard 3G UMG 1831 21 Mbps from ebay.in
but i have some issues, the pack of the datacard has imprinted 2Mbps to 7.2 Mbps in HSUPA where 7.2 Mbps tag has been labeled with paper chips with 21 Mbps. But when i checked the datacard it shows that its 3G UMG 1831

Now i need to know whether there is 2 versions of UMG 1831 available in the market of max speed 7.2 Mbps or 21 Mbps
Or only 1 of its type is available there.please correct me.

If it is so then i will make a dispute with the seller on ebay as per as ur comments
Need help thanks.

I think all this talk of 7.2 mbps /14 mpbs/21 mbps signals is useless. You should consider yourself lucky if you are constantly getting even 2 mbps signals. So far as 3.6 mbps signals is concerned(which is the maximum my Samsung mobile modem can give)I have never experienced that.I also have a Huawei E1750 7.2 mbps modem which I think will remain useless for quite some time more.I personally think if some one is getting 7.2 mbps(may be people in some places like Bangalore are getting that)then that should be very fast enough for laptop browsing.I think (I may wrong) 21 mbps if it ever comes will not give noticeable speed enhancement for browsing. In other words the browsing experience for 7.2 mbps and 21 mbps should be same. The speed I am getting ie less than 3.6 mpbs from BSNL 3G loads pages very fast.Perhaps there are other factors besides 3G speed which improves the browsing experience.

@logmein.... if ur in kolkata specially south kolkata dont expect any good speed whatever the datacard may be..... i am using UMG 1831 and my speed is even more pathetic than you..... kolkata hav the 3G ready towers but god knows why they dont give speed.....

At Jadavpur.....

https://www.speedtest.net

and if u move towards Kasba or Garfa area the datacard doesnt even detect 3G signal at the first go.... it only detects EDGE.... after much of movement it detects the 3G signal...
