hey guys going to buy umg1831 and i was told about the heat issues. should i consider buying or the issue should be looked into. need ur views guys i am desperate to use a high capacity modem.

I am using Huawei K4505 ( 28.8Mbps ) card. I have downloaded with download manager, at a consistent speed of 3.5Mbps, for a duration of 2 Hours. The card's temperature started from 42*C and reached 63*C at 47th minute.
After 47 minutes, the heat never increased above 63*C. No disconnection also noticed due to heat, till the 2 Hours testing.
The card’s ( approximate ) maximum permissible temp. is 76*C.
Getting different levels of heat, between different capacity cards, is not an issue. It should be tolerable and within the permitted level. Naturally high capacity cards will tend to consume more power and generate more heat.
It should not hang or disconnect due to heat !
Another, ever repeated, suggestion is, high capacity cards will always, behave / handle well with lower loads of data transfers.

How to check temperature of 3G USB data card ?
You need a Digital Multimeter.
Locate the maximum heat generating area of your card by gripping with your palm. In that place measure the temperature with the special probe supplied with the Digital Multi Meter.
More heated area will differ from card to card.

This model costs Rs.1250 in Chennai. There are more costlier models are there. Temperature measurement is available in above 1kK models only.
This DMM is used by Electronics Service Engineers ( like me ).
anyway , do not waste money on 21mbps modem , better stick to 7.2 or 3 mbps

i strongly recommend you buy a umg 1831 for a whole new experience. it is just fantastic with bsnl 3g. i am getting steady 350 kbps on torrents and upto 500kbps on downloads. (hope idm will improve the speeds) someone please post the link to download idm crack version with key.
