thanks a lot i was worried wid the data card thing...well my mobile has pretty nice battery backup of 4-5 days so it ll work...so now in short i have to buy a 3G sim of 69Rs or so.. and recharge it with 4200Rs right ?

Right... but think again, you are exploiting your mobile phone when a data card worth just 2k cud make ur life easier....But, only if you are getting a sim card solely for internet usage on pc.and the recharge part, search a bit in the forums to confirm it...

No matter how much battery backup your mobile gives, 3G is huge battery drainer. It wont drain out much if you use your mobile intermittently for net, but if you do connect it to the pc and use it for continuous net then it definitely will. You may also try charging the mobile simultaneously but I am not sure if its a healthy approach or not.

Best of luck.

Very true.....and spending another 1.5k or so on purchasing an original battery in future , might as well invest in data card.

in my opinion, 3g phones do not recieve signals like data cards do. if you use phone in PC for internet (long hours), you are killing the phone. battery drains soon and the phone heats up fast. (my Nokia 5320 cant be held in hand after one hour usage). however, if you are on the go and want to DL stuff like 20mb files, songs videos etc , phone is a good option. data card is designed for heavy duty. get a good one and forget the rest.

Everyone should get a "white" 3g USB plug and play datacard of atleast 7.2 Mbps.Just enter the APN and you are done.Forget the rest like USB cable,COM ports,Nokia PC Suite/Samsung Kies ,mobile internet settings,PC internet settings, mobile battery drainage, heating etc

thanks for the info guys... i dnt want my sweet cell to get drained n die a faster death....@farmboy - which white 3G USB plug are you talking about....To all - suggest a nice 3G Data Card leaving the Terracom one which BSNL provides... i did read other posts bt m still confused.

I have the white coloured Huawei E1750 USB 3G datacard which is unlocked.

You would almost always carry your phone rather than your data card.

After recharging with 4200/-, i thought of buying a data card, but did not due to below reasons.
1> Most data cards available on the market support max 7.2 or 3.6 Mbps speeds. Huawei E series are amongst the best. I have heard about issues with Micromax and Terracom linktop.

2> On the contrary, 3G mobiles (I use a Nokia E52) supports HSDPA@10.2 Mbps. I might not get these speeds now, but no harm having one ready :-)

Nokia 5230 > HSDPA@ 3.6Mbps

I recharged on the 04-Nov, today its 11-Nov. Have downloaded 19GB in 6 days, all through my E52. Mobile was tethered to the laptop with data cable via ovi suite. Never once did the phone heat up to an extent that could be noticed.

Interesting observation- I also checked with a data card, but the speeds i got while using the mobile was approx 10% higher.

For folks who hate cables, try out Joiku Spot light/premium- this is turns your phone to a full fledged Wireless router..!!
