I know there'll be a DHCP server that assigns unique ip each time a user logs in (any extra info on this is appreciated, specially how bsnl/mtnl goes about it)1>But i haven't enabled it on my router (Huawei smartax mt882), is this by default since i haven't opted for static ip?2>what is that "lease time" option in DHCP page of my router conf page? does it mean my ip address changes only after my lease time?3>Also, is this assigning of ip adress random or consecutive or any pattern?

Your router needn't have DHCP enabled. BSNL has DHCP running on their servers. Your router is simply assigned an IP when it tries to configure the IP settings.Lease time is the time for which the IP is valid. After the lease time expires, a fresh IP is issued to you.Assigning the IP address is dependent on the server. It may be random or it may have a pattern. Generally its random..

Here is a bit different reply to max. :P1. The DHCP in your modem/router is for when it assigns IP to your PC, the LAN bit of its working.2. Lease time is as it says, the time the IP is leased to your PC. Generally, it is renewed automatically for the same amount of time if you don't disconnect.2. DHCP works by assigning the first Free/available IP address in the list to you.
