BSNL FTTH slow speed and high latency

If it were easy to fix by using ONT then I wouldn't have bought a better router after the previous mercusys mr60x (TP-Link sister brand). I used:
1. Direct ONT PPPOE
2. ONT PPPOE + MERCUSYS AP Mode
3. ONT BRIDGE + MERCUSYS PPPOE
4. ONT BRIDE + PC PPPOE
Only thing which worked was Asus router as I didn't want to bother buying another router and setting up openwrt.
Asus has adaptive QoS built in which fixed by bufferbloat issues. No more latency spikes when my family simultaneously downloads or streams.

BSNL is just built crazy. You get bufferbloat at 100 mbps (my plan) and even at higher speeds which shouldn't be the case.
I've seen one case where the guy gets 190 mbps on a 200 mbps plan but no bufferbloat. His BSNL office can't figure out why he gets slow speed but the positive side is that no latency spikes happens at his tp link C6 🤣

Yes absolutly, most of the LCO dont know anything just doing business on how things are done that they have learned from some other guy of same calibre.

I have a Hathway connection in Kolkata, and using their provided router. Have to say continious use of 6+ devices, heavy usage i would say. No lags, no spikes. Stable connection. I have 40Mbps connection and brust speed goes close to 200Mbps, and gives a steady speed of 60Mbps to 70Mbps.

Its pathetic that even with a ONU + TP-Link router setup BSNL connection is performing like this. and above all complaing does't work. You'll get tired of explaing the problem.

True. If you have better options then you should switch to some other ISP. I'm personally waiting for airtel to arrive here.
Only options are Jio and Railwire both CGNAT.
So using better router with BSNL public IP.
Only thing which keeps me with BSNL is their public IP 🤣

At my home there is JIO fibre box right outside my home. they even came did my kyc, just to know later that that box doesnt have power. just 150 meter away it has power but they were very lazy about it. Seeing Jio guys these reluctunt stayed with BSNL just sometimes it gives me headache. :)

Other than my LCO have alliance, it is good brand but still have issues like local ISPs. So stuck with BSNL.

Whats with bsnl's public IP?

The IP address which gets assigned to you can be either public or private.
If public then you can access it over the internet and use port forwarding feature. If private then you can access it over lan only.
Not sure if ddns works on private IPs.
You can check if the WAN IP assigned to your ONT (Router if you are using ONT in bridge mode) is the same as the IP address which appears when you google "what is my ip address".

Its same. so public address.
Whats the scene with BSNL and IPV6?

I have been using BSNL for 4 years now, just frustrated about their infrastructure and not even sure if with time it will get better or not.
