BSNL sent Lok Adalat legal notice for unpaid bill! What to do?

So here's the situation :

I had the Home 500 plan for very long time (got it when they launched broadband). Paid all bills and stuff till May 2015 when I decided to leave BSNL due to excess usage and stuff.

Got Alliance Broadband in June 2015 and sent BSNL an application to terminate the connection, both landline and broadband as no one was using that.

Got the bill again next month with added amount (landline rental + broadband rental), sent an application to CO again and this time I mentioned that the Billed Person is dead (my uncle) and we don't have death certificate and can't provide that so I'm applying on his behalf as I was the one to apply for the brodband. (If I can apply for the broadband, why can't I apply for termination :P)

Next month, another bill with added amount. And this time they disconnected the landline and not sure about broadband. They stopped adding extra amount till the amount reached Rs. 5032 and they continued sending the bill.

Today, I got a Legal Notice from some Advocate stating that I'm supposed to pay the outstanding amount within 15 days of receiving the letter or they'll take legal action both civil and criminal against me.

I'm ready to pay the amount that I used and not going to pay anything extra that I didn't use. Also, I want to terminate my connection with BSNL totally. BSNL already have some security deposit for both broadband (Rs. 500) and for landline (not sure Rs. 3000 may be, took the line in '92-'93).

What if they don't agree to take the amount from my security deposit and settle ? Would they take action against me if I refuse to pay anything when I already have amount with them as security ? Anyone faced anything like this before ?

I assume the best option would be to visit the exchange and meet with the accounts officer and explain to him your problem and get it fixed in their backend. I always try to ensure that the account is properly closed after I disconnect a service. I had no issues getting BSNL disconnected (Getting a refund however took 6 months I think).

Yep. Do what @chromaniac has suggested. The AO will fix it.

If you want to that is. Even if the connection was in your name, bsnl wouldn't have done anything :(

But, still, meeting the AO is the 'right' thing to do.

Yaa. x720&chromaniac say Right but present exchange JTO's don't care, the ONE nd ONLY AO Request he person 100% help Your Problem

Yes, I'm gonna meet them on Wednesday. I know they can't do anything as they already have security deposits that covers the due. They just want to collect as much as they can coz last I read back in 2014, they've like 60 crores in outstanding bill, if not more.

Red Devil is right. If they go to Court. You just show the letters of disconnection request (with stamped receiving) to judge. BSNL has no case against you.

If you don't have any proof for your disconnection request. No service request numbers. No official letter receiving. No emails. You have to pay the bill.
