Cops in India are now tracking torrent downloads to catch pirates

chromaniac is 100% right. This is also the reason why VPN's are more common there.P.S. @admin nice AV. better than the previous one ;)P.P.S @admin Is it your pic?

you really think people in india torrenting movies are careful about the whole thing? people are more than happy to display what they are download on public channels like forums. there is no way to hide your IP during torrenting other than using something like a VPN. how many of these happy torrenters do you think are doing it using a vpn? most of them i believe think that turning on encryption would hide their details from others. which of course is not true.

As i used to point it out. Our culture is all about sharing. Fans of actors , directors , music director purposefully distribute copyrighted stuff to increase the popularity. This is evident in south very much. So going after them would be detriment to these actors in large way. Also this will be a negative impression on actors mainly , producers will be out of picture.. as news channel will display " X actor movie down loaders arrested etc.. "But Again as i used to say , Just wait for a couple of weeks , the movie will be on some TV channel , and wait for a month or two , it will be on youtube.. Best eg is OKOK movie which came out some months ago ( hit movie) was shown on sun tv(?) recently .

its a open secret now , everyone spends GBs of bandwidth
no one can spend more than 25Gbs per month legit , just watching youtube vids or other stuff .
I can and do. Its not so tough...

try openvpn, hotspot shield and vpnreactor they hide all ur details cops cannot do anything. my friend is owner of pirate site. and he never aressted donot afraid. always use free VPN. but i use paid vpn.

Then you should change your login name from annahazare to something else. :D

He was downloading movies from a torrent site on his office computer. Most internet junkies would never anticipate that downloading songs and movies from torrents can invite a policeman home. But that is beginning to happen.
Soon after the incident last week, the company emailed its employees asking them to stay off torrent sites.
With a rising number of complaints, mostly from owners of copyrighted songs and movies, the cyber crime cell and the newly-formed social media laboratory have been monitoring internet users with large data downloads.
“There have been several such complaints recently... Only a person with a copyright can be a complainant,” Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner (crime), said. “This is a cognisable offence under the Copyrights Act.” In the Vikhroli case, too, the complainant was the copyright holder.
For those who do not know, downloading from a torrent site has always been illegal. “It is akin to buying pirated DVDs from a CD seller; only this is done within the safe confines of your house,” Vijay Mukhi, cyber security expert,
said. Not many people are aware of the fact that using a torrent site is illegal,
he said.
Mukhi said action can be taken against an accused under the Copyrights Act, the IPC, or the IT Act. “Section 66 of the IT Act is very elaborate and covers several offences of similar nature... It is not only your office machine that is under the scanner, but also your personal computer.”
Asked how exactly the Mumbai police would keep track of who is downloading what from the internet, Roy said: “We have a team of cyber experts and we have started a social media lab. We track trends and with the help of the internet service providers, we conduct random checks on the content that is being downloaded from certain sites.”
