Delhi Police uses Facebook to track lawless drivers-Internet-Infotech-The Economic Times

Critics say these methods could set a dangerous precedent. Relying on people to turn in their neighbors online is “Orwellian,” said Gaurav Mishra, chief executive of 2020 Social, a social business consultancy based here. “When you start using the Internet as way for the government to keep tabs on its citizens, I start getting really worried, because you don’t know where it will end,” he said. The popularity of the page shows that the ability to publicly humiliate wrongdoers “taps into a very basic primal part of who we are as human beings,” Mishra said, and it is not a pleasant one.
In New Delhi, Garg acknowledges that issuing tickets based on Facebook posts has complications. People might use the site to settle scores, for example. But, he said, the response has been so positive so far that he doesn’t want to discourage anyone from posting photos. He also had some practical advice for Delhi’s would-be citizen traffic officers. “We advise while you are driving not to take a photo” of a fellow driver who is breaking traffic laws, Garg said. Using a cell phone camera while driving “in itself is a violation.”

this is soo reminisce of east Germany stasi or gestapo.citizen spies

I have sent a email to him to file a case but if he does not then i plan to file a case next month against red light cameras, this facebook crap.

simply put when you are sent the fine according to common law you have the right to know the accuser and confront him for cross examination which redlight, speed, license plate and facebook gestapo fails.

heh. that is what i have been saying all along. DTP has managed to do the impossible. It has turned the common man against each other TO HELP THE authority. the authority does not deserve anything from us. they have been the one responsible for the mess we suffer. and now we are being an ass targeting each other and who benefits? the authority. the challan money i doubt ends up getting used for the betterment of the infrastructure. i bet most of it is eaten up by corrupt officials. this is pretty hilarious actually. seeing people targeting each other while DTP is amazed that they do not have to do the hard work.

Delhi Police goes hi-tech but it is still time before they are installed - The Times of India

As a first step, we hope to complete the installation of the Intelligent Traffic System Network (ITSN) in a phased manner in the next two years,'' said Gupta.

According to senior police officers, ITSN will span 265km of road length, covering 277 signalized junctions in the city. A total of 1,687 cameras will be installed along the route and there will be specific cameras to record specific breach of the law. "The plan is to install specialized cameras in such a manner that these record the movement of all offenders. While 52 will be used as enforcement cameras, 35 of the cameras will record traffic signal violations and 36 others on open stretches will record speed violations,'' said joint CP (traffic)

red light cameras have been found unconstitutional in germany, several us state as they violate innocent until proven guilty clause and right to confront your accuser.

"A machine classifies a person as an offender, and you can't confront your accuser because there is no accuser... can it be wise to establish a principle that when a machine says you did something illegal, you are presumed guilty?

Yes, provided its accompanied with a photo for easy verification.

So what difference does it make in that case if a cop ticketed you or a machine ?

Nothing :)

blrp are you joking?.this is not my quote. Its an legal experts quote.1)suppose you have rented my car and you overpseed,i will get a letter telling me that i have to pay2)in common law there is a procedure known as right to confront your accuser for cross examination.how the hell will you confront your talk less camera and cross examine it?I have no probelm if a police vehicle with human police challans me cuz i can take him to court but what about a AI?In germany the supreme court banned all red light cameras as it violated privacy.

stfu consiparacy theorist.if you are a delhi-ite you'll know people drive like retards here. this is a bright step and will bring in enforcement and ease the chaos.

1)suppose you have rented my car and you overpseed,i will get a letter telling me that i have to pay
If i have rented it from you then its my problem.
If I borrowed it from you then you will have to pay for it.

2)in common law there is a procedure known as right to confront your accuser for cross examination.how the hell will you confront your talk less camera and cross examine it?
Ask for the evidence to be produced that it was your car ?

I have no probelm if a police vehicle with human police challans me cuz i can take him to court but what about a AI?
See above.

In germany the supreme court banned all red light cameras as it violated privacy.
This bit is little more involved, privacy indicates more than the number plate was captured. I'm talking about only the number plate being stored. So there are differences in the way these systems take their photos. Some acceptable some others perhaps not.
