We’re still here at the Android Q&A session at Google I/O and Andy Rubin was just asked a very interesting question – will Ice Cream Sandwich require phones with more processing power now that the complex holographic UI is confirmed to be making its way to phones? The answer – maybe, maybe not. And they want older phones to be able to experience these forthcoming updates.

Nothing can be promised, but Andy Rubin did confirm one thing: Google is definitely looking at introducing another phone that should blow the socks off of everyone and that should be able to handle Ice Cream Sandwich with ease. He noted that they can’t announce anything just yet, but do know that an announcement is headed our way. Dual-core? Yea, I think that’s the biggest thing on everyone’s wish-list. We’ll be digging for more.

Andy Rubin Confirms a New Nexus is Coming

Admin will be happy person to know about Dual core Nexus .. we can expect the same with Ice Creme Sandwich may be in Q4-2011

this is just prediction lets see ...

yeah. sounds reasonable that google would launch another nexus smartphone later this year. would try to get it too. let's hope it does not bundle with the usual hardware that is common at the time of launch. they need to remain one generation ahead in terms of hardware with the nexus series.

very true .. they need to be step ahead in hardware also heard Motorola is working on Quad core processor for 2012 Q1 release ... Nexus product need such kind of hardware

they outsource it to HTC/Samsung, so these won't want to make phones with better hardware than their own phones.
also heard Motorola is working on Quad core processor for 2012 Q1 release ... Nexus product need such kind of hardware
why? do we even have apps that utilize dual cores properly.

ahem. both nexus one and nexus s have their siblings sold officially by htc and samsung. and as an oem manufacturer, they have nothing to lose. everyone knows that google is not MAKING the phone. these phone still gets serviced by the original manufacturer. and it is sort of a privilege for them to selected for a nexus branded phone! google in the end decides what sort of hardware they want in their own nexus branded phone. if one company refuses to make it for them, they have plenty of options. Sony, motorola, Acer, LG... next nexus could be from any of these three companies.

ahem. both nexus one and nexus s have their siblings sold officially by htc and samsung.

exactly. So even if they (google) try to get ahead of the curve, the OEM manufacturer can launch a similar phone.

and google does not mind it! google nexus is aimed mostly at developers and people looking at the stock android experience. people who want customized UIs and subsidized phones would still go for company branded phones. as long as android powered devices are selling, google still wins. they never really aim to compete with their own partners with nexus! earlier nexus was to push the companies to launch more powerful and capable devices. they no longer have to do that :D we are seeing companies pushing the limits of existing processors and graphics hardware themselves. :D nexus is just used as a platform to launch major Android builds and providing a device with the pure google experience. :) nexus one a major advancement in terms of hardware when it was launched. google was probably annoyed at the lack of pace in the hardware area. nexus s was launched after Galaxy s was already on sale. so they did not focus on the hardware, just used an established platform to launch 2.3.

Can't blame them for new products. But....it does get frustrating after a while when something u just bought becomes obsolete in under half a year. I miss the Nokia 3310 times..

so if Nokia never released new firmwares for a model, it is a good thing?consider this... nokia is selling and launching new models based on symbian when they have already clarified that they are discontinuing focus on symbian to switch to windows phone 7. anyways, google has already announced that they are going to ensure that devices get updates for at least 18 months. this applies from the date of launch...

Google I/O day 2 - Android Market enhancement ..

Good news, though – today at I/O, Google announced that as of June 2011, the Market will support apps of up to 4GB (well, 4GB + 50MB) in size, which should be large enough to house just about any game we could possibly want on our devices. This support will come in the form of the same 50MB initial download app limit, except with the addition of up to 2 2GB data files, hosted and managed by the Market itself. This takes the burden off developers and makes it easy for them to publish gigantic apps and games without worrying about hosting and extra implementations.
