ERROR 678 - Strange

Hello EveryoneThis if the first time i m posting in this forumI have been a user of dataone for past 1 yearMy modem is UTSTARCOMyesterday while surfing suddenly the connection went offi was connected using the Ethernet (PPPOE)after than i was unable to connectI tried the Bridge mode also.But i got Error 678Then i tried making connection on my laptop using WIfii was able to connect (using dial up) I was not able to connect using PPPOEI was also able to connectin using the ethernet on laptopI tried eberything possible i would find on the netMy lan card is working properly as i can see the modem interface (192.168.1.1)What may be the reasonIs this problem with my PC hardware, Software,Modem or problem in dataoneGet back to me if u need more infoThanksAjay NAgle

1.What program/s you downloaded recently ?
2.Try System Restore.
3. Check Network/LAN/properties/repair option.
4.Report Ipconfig/all data when connected in wifi mode.

I did not install anything recently
Already tried the repair options

Can this be a problem of the modem?

dear friend,this same thing happened 2 me last month.. i was using it till 6am oneday,the next sec.. connection goes off,and couldnt connect for a week,it showed error 678.. thinkthe same is the case with u,right??in my case it was a prob at the local exchange.. the JE changed one of the ports there,and it was all right.. iam 100%sure, its the case with u 2..unless u havent changed anything in the modem config or setup page..no,this cant be a prob of modem,if the DSL lamp is steady and u can the modem page 2.. so my advise would be,call up the local exchange ,ask them to giv the JE's number,tell him SPECIFICALLY to try changing the ports there..dont bank upon the local exchange guys or the ones at 1957.. they know NOTHING..best of luck..any help u need,contact me

Hello VinayakThanks for the replyI also think it is prob in the exchangeas i bought a different modem (from a friend), and still the problem existsI will contact the local exchangeBut still wondering why i m able to connect using the laptop... On laptop only bridge mode working ....ThanksAjay

This is their server problem. Sometimes thing error comes and doesn't persist. Sometimes I also experienced this problem. BSNL serves such a huge number of subscribers and it is bound to come up. In my opinion BSNL is doing a fine job.

I was also able to connectin using the ethernet on laptop
So Lan Ethernet card is OK.
Then i tried making connection on my laptop using WIfi
i was able to connect (using dial up)
Wireless adapter in Laptop Ok. Dialer Ok.
But still wondering why i m able to connect using the laptop...
On laptop only bridge mode working .
So Dialer is working.
What is the model of UTSTAR ? DO You use only UTStar ? any other wi-fi router ?
