but its pretty expensive too. I am not sure someone buying a 6000 rupee phone wants to shell out 1,400 Rs. just for a navigation software.

I use Sygic in S2..Highly accurate upto 5m as Aviral said...better performance and accuracy than Google map.@Bobby: Bro it just use mobile network to load map(in case you dont have offline map installed) and to get your coarse location.

Yes it is. You'll have access to updates as well. But before purchasing it, try the free alternatives to see if they fit your bill.
So do the map updates cost?

The best option would be google navigation which would be preloaded, remains always updated and shows traffic conditions too. The only problem is that it will need a data connection, you can cache the maps offline so it will use only a slight amount of data for computing the route etc. Would work fine with a 2G/EDGE internet plan as well.
Is google navigation is same as those present in mobile devices? or is it seperate maps present in mapmyndia?
How much data bandwidth does it require to travel say '10km' (2G will work fine!)? I still think it takes some time for maps to load.

I have used google maps with my tablet in India and seems to be fine, infact i used it most parts of maharashtra, delhi, chennai which has good coverage. where as its a hit and miss in Goa. but just plain google maps with tablet and 3g connection from BSNL is good.

You wont avoid when you have to shell out more than several hundreds of rupee

I'll use a free alternative? Its not like I run an emergency ambulance service and need the best possible pin point location services everytime. Google navigation seems to run fine for me for my usage.

@manu: Learn to pay then!

Thanks man. Could never figure that out on my own.

I am not sure, best to check on their website, some companies have a subscription system wherein the licenses are valid for a particular time, some have lifelong licenses.

Google navigation is what comes with google maps, as I said you can pre cache the whole city map so it wont download the map while navigating, just use the internet for route calculations, traffic data etc. My rough guess is it won't use more than 4-5mb for a 10KM trip. Ill try and measure the data consumed next time I use it.
