Facebook starts another campaign against network neutrality to get support for Free Basics

i am not even sure why zuck is creating such a huge controversy when others are willing to do his job for him. it would have been best for him if the topic did not get much publicity. he basically jumped on an axe by spending his marketing dollars on the platform mocking the critics.

look at the bsnl/mtnl ad injecting fiasco. no one is raising this topic even though it is a bigger mess than freebasics. ISPs are injecting ads in internet streams of their users. no one is bothered about it. no one is discussing this on national tv. bsnl and mtnl are minting money.

If it gets the official approval, more operators would join the platform. So that's not the big problem. Facebook would like to expand it to more operators. Airtel might not join as they have their own Airtel Zero platform I believe. But it is unlikely to remain Reliance exclusive once it is authroized.

I have not read the FB program properly but I remember reading that the websites should provide functionality without JavaScript. This means no ads. This means zero revenues. This means that folks like me would get zero benefit from joining the program. This means that FreeBasics users would never be able to access IBF. This means that communities with more resources would get that user base. This also means that well funded platforms would be able to change public perception in future because a large number of internet base would only get to read their forced propaganda.

With full access to internet, users can read both Facebook's point of view and SaveTheInternet's point of view. On FreeBasics, they might only get to see one side of the picture.

Just imagine a situation where on Television, you can only access news channels that are favorable to the ruling party. FreeBasics is essentially that for the internet.

TRAI is unlikely to get away with it this time around. Plus we might end up seeing an Airtel Zero type situation where people may start protesting against services that joins the FreeBasics program.

And suppose your rival forum joins this free basic and that forum is offered on zero data charges then which Rcom user would visit this forum
