remember the papers you probably signed when taking the connection?

one of the clauses you agreed to probably included that airtel reserves the right to change plans/packages/service conditions anytime.

i do not think you can go to court demanding that airtel continues to offer you the same package that they were offering previously.

it might be worth a try. but are you willing to go to consumer courts for that?

Looks like I will have to live with it. This is really sad. Imagine I have to pay 899 for 10GB with 512 speed!! Where are we heading to....

yeap. it sucks. they have no good plan today even if you are willing to pay more. i mean i am still paying 2000 rupees for their 1mbps iptv plan. and i am not changing it to their newer plans because they have terrible limits. and i bet, a mail would soon arrive in the future informing me that they are automatically switching me to the new plan because they are discontinuing the old plan i currently have.

HOn inquiring I was told by Airtel customer care that there is an FUP of 10GB on this plan and has been effective since the speed was increased in June.

I am pretty sure that this was not the case since I was downloading close to 30 GB per month and there was never any drop in speed. Also, while taking the connection I was clearly told that there is no FUP and we will give a speed of 512 Kbps.

Has any one faced a similar problem? Speaking to customer care is not making any difference. Any suggestions?
Speaking to customer care will make a difference if you just tell them that you wanna disconnect your broadband connection. You'll get a call-back from their retention team who'll most probably give you a good offer. Do it.

taking that route is sort of risky as you are pretty much asking them to disconnect your connection. you might not get a good retention plan. what would you do then?

same thing happened with me.My speed was doubled to 1 Mbps in june with 15 Gb fup, but I did some arguing with them and got my limit increased to 100GB(the original limit on my 512 kbps).Sadly I blowed even my 100 Gb this month :p. Now back to 512 kbps until my billing cycle ends on 23rd.

Please do not take that fatalist view. As customer, you are king. Others have advised you to threaten them with disconnection and you are apprehensive about what would happen if they take it literally and disconnect you. Don't do that.
I'm sure you have BSNL or Reliance in you area. You may also have Railwire or even some cable internet. Look at all these options and evaluate them. I think BSNL has a 512 kbps true unlimited at around Rs 750/-. Reliance has 600 kbps at Rs 649/- without FUP.
Collect your info and be armed and then call Airtel and tell them you want to disconnect. At that point you will be able to convincingly speak as one who is about to switch. If the Airtel guy at the other end is dumb and accepts your switch request, you still have better deals to fall back on.

This is exactly why i didnt prefer Airtel when i took a new connection in a different city, and installed BSNL instead. Atleast they give 'true' unlimited connections no matter how bad their customer service is. Airtel just doesn't get the fact that they are literally doomed when old customers who have sworn on Airtel Broadband for the past 8 years move away from them, not to mention hundreds of new customers they have got because of my good word.

Agreed. Airtel is taking it's old customers for granted. :madness:

You know, just about a year ago we talked about the conspiracy and corruption in BSNL - they had crappy plans and the privates had all the fun. I guess the situation has reversed now :)
