Google Allo

It won't work here because it requires SMS based verification which Google will enable selectively in countries where it will be launched officially. The whole idea of a slow rollout of a video chat app is ridiculous considering Google's history with messaging apps. On top of that, you can use the app only on one device at a time. So if you want to use the app on your tablet then it will de-register itself from your phone so you will have verify it again. I am not sure how the app will work on a tablet with no calling facility because apparently SMS/Call based verification is the only method.

Its like Google wants the app to fail. Just 1 function - one to one chat. No Desktop support. Can be used only on 1 device at a time. Staggered rollout. And years behind other services/apps. Google can fucking die.

They could have clubbed it with Allo. A WhatsApp competitor with video calling would be appealing.

activated easily. to invite you can either send a text or use hangouts. not sure if whatsapp is supported as it only checks for mobile numbers and not emails. idiocy to be honest. let me invite using email. no sire.
