Its not by android. Its by your mobile service provider.

I get something similar on MTNL and Vodafone too. May be since 1-2 years.
 


I doubt its 2 messages in one. It more or less looks like operator programming mistake.
 
Hell of a coincidence considering it happened within an hour of me updating to the latest KitKat build.
 
The reason I say that is due to use of hyphens as separator -----------

Thats not how Google will do it. Google is very careful about user interface.

It would use a very proper separator. A clear full boundary separating two messages.

So based on that I highly doubt its new feature of Android. But looks more like operator side mistake.
