Btw, is it necessary to connect via Kies in my case? Whenever i try to search for Firmware upgrade it shows "Connection failed".

Download check Fus from the market. You can check for updates without Kies.

Tool is handy, but i have already switched into Windows now to connect via Kies! But this tool is asking to go to some other site connected to Fus, to update my firmware.

I guess I'll be missing out official ICS on my newly bought Motorola Defy+ as Moto now says no ICS for Defy+. Defy+ was shipped with Gingerbread 2.3.6, how can they not provide ICS then? Hoping an official Cyanogenmod 9 support atleast.

Yesterday it started downloading update at around 11-11:15 and was taking lot of time. So i took a short nap. After about an hour when i checked it, there was no progress shown on screen, so i assumed that it was completed.But when i checked the phone it was all same! I re-did everything today morning. But it hardly reached about 40% by the time of my leaving. So i had to disconnect again.So how much time it normally takes to upgrade the firmware?

it's pretty darn fast on nexus series. hardly takes 10 minutes.

S2 is not getting the update OTA?

I think samsung releases the OTA updates 2-3 days after the KIES one.or maybe GB > ICS is too big for OTA on Samsung since they have to push so much of their bloatware inside.for note, CM 9 is ~100mb in size while the official samsung ICS leak is ~800 mb.
