That is incorrect. Work on Incorporating DirectWrite started this October. Before that it was technically not possible because of some issues. Forgot the link, will have to find it. Should be somewhere in this thread.
Here's the ticket for the issue.
As you can see, code commits have started appearing from October and in this month alone they have done some big changes. It should be completed soon.
 
True. This should arrive in the near future. In fact, I have been seeing some changes in font rendering in recent builds too. In some cases only. I guess they might be experimenting in some dev or canary builds.

Here in this thread only about a year ago it was posted then again in june it was posted about the development. will have search the thread to see the links

Looking at the SS there is very subtle differences with directwrite enabled. FF/IE are way ahead.
When adobe had made css open source, chrome was going to implement it.
 
Google is using the code open sourced by Adobe as part of the implementation I guess. As for the quality, I am hoping that more improvements would come. These are very early days. Chrome does render text fine on OS X and even Linux.
