Hangouts is a messaging app not a chat app. A chat app will tell you who is online and who is not. Hangouts won't. Google shouldn't have replaced Gtalk with Hangouts IMO. They could have imported your chats into Hangouts but should have left Gtalk untouched.

I thought people hated that feature in Whatsapp. It gives me the creep. Its good that Hangouts or any other app doesn't show that. Even Whatsapp for iOS allows you to turn it off.

play store showing hangouts app in updates but when i click it no updates. open button takes to old gtalk.
