It has a removable battery if you are comfortable opening up screws, detaching all the connected cables on and around it and taking out the battery manually.

I would suggest to wait for a month or two before ordering. The initial batches of Nexus 4 had issues with the hardware buttons and earpiece.

Even then you will get same hardware version if you change it for any problem, only after hardware revision it's of use to get it exchanged

DoA is the bigger problem. Other than that there is a very minute chance that there would be an issue.
