I have read that micro USB ports are slow at charging than some proprietary 30 odd pin ports because they are not capable of delivering higher current for charging the battery . thats one reason why Apple's lightning connector gets lot of praise. yet new nexus 7 continues to feature the micro USB for charging. Any comments?
Because the whole sane world has agreed to use USB as the power standard and Apple is the only douchebag which resists it?Apple I believe ships their iOS devices in Europe with a micro-usb adapter because usb is the legal standard in European Union.
^^Our worthy sarkaar also needs to eat money in the form of taxes and duties. So 3k is for that.

I have a transformer made by Asus but somehow it doesn't have micro USB but a 30 pin connector instead. Apple phones do charge very quickly though my phone takes well above 2 hours to charge fully.
AppleiPhone 5 seems to have a battery capacity of 1440mAh. Android devices usually have batteries with capacities of around 2000mAh.
If you use a 2 ampere charger, the charging would be much faster. The port does not really matter, the charger's capacity and the battery's capacity are more important here.
You are missing the big picture. We are finally at a stage where a single charger can charge multiple models from different companies. This was the goal behind establishing microusb as the standard for charging mobile devices.
In fact, some companies do not even ship their phones with a charger anymore because every home is expected to have multiple microusb chargers. The goal is to stop the manufacturing of excessive hardware products which are not required.
Sure Apple is the special one which continue to use their own charger. But do they do it for your benefit? Not really. They charge royalty on every single accessory designed to use the lightening connector on your iOS device.
