its irritating actually. u need to click exactly on the checkbox. anywhere around it and the dropdown opens up. a lot of people are annoyed with it if i am to believe the response on the gmail forum... hoping that google would revert this particular change. or at least make available a labs option to open up selection menu.
I am a 'heavy' user - not sure what that means though I don't see any noticeable difference in loading times. Also the new look is immaterial for me since I rarely ever use those buttons and options mentioned. I use only the keyboard, and my area of focus is the inbox list Baaki sab moh maaya
speed as in opening up new messages. deleting them. it seems to have improved a lot at my end. i had started using offline gmail with flaky connection mode because of the slowness!
yeap. there is definitely an improvement in going through mails quickly. i have totally stopped using the offline mode because it is silky smooth now! i go through 150-200 mails on a daily basis. so this is good stuff. though i still need to rely on thunderbird to sort messages when it gets too crowdy in my inbox.
