remember our government did not even bother to participate in the auction of gandhi items? media made such a big deal out of it. if it was not for mallya, they would have been sold to some other foreign buyer. that shows how serious our government takes gandhi. of course, there is a thought that mallya was asked by the government to do the bidding. if the government itself has officially participated, the bidding would have become a joke. all the rival bidders would have known that india would bid for the win. and they could have raised the price to well exceptionally high levels...

The whole media is already doing that

media is just publicizing the matter more as it was intended by the author.....Govt. needs to act or forget about keeping its reputation yet again... " Khulai aam izaz uttar kai rakh dei..... "

also... i believe that the government needs to consult with gandhi experts, people who worked with him (some are likely to be still alive :P) and his grandsons and granddaughters on what needs to be done. if all the people who actually knew gandhi or have studied him deeply think that the book does not really hurt what gandhi was all about, there should be no step taken. they are the ones who needs to be making the decision. not some politician whose only connection with gandhi is the image on the notes he carries in his pocket.

arre yar...Gandhiji's grandson has already criticized the book its even on weki :D

dunno. i just read some article in the paper and that said that they were fine with the book. please give me a source of the criticism!

The assembly of Gandhi's home state of Gujarat on March 20, 2011, voted unanimously to ban Great Soul because of the controversy. Author Lelyveld has stated that the gay interpretation of his work is a mistake. "The book does not say that Gandhi was bisexual or homosexual. It says that he was celibate and deeply attached to Kallenbach. This is not news."[4]

‘Ban is un-Gandhian’

“This is the most un-Gandhian thing to do,” said Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, reacting to the Maharashtra government’s “knee-jerk” reaction to propose a ban on a new biography of Gandhi, The Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi And His Struggle With India. “I will definitely take legal opinion on this. This culture of banning and burning has to be opposed. Bapu never accepted this kind of state censorship. He never shut out his critics. Instead he welcomed them to a public debate,” said Tushar, adding that this was probably the first instance of a book being banned based on its reviews.

“Bapu’s life was transparent and can stand scrutiny. Why use official draconian laws to curtail opposing opinion?” asked Tushar.

Tushar said people should be free to read the book.

from this, gandhi's grandson is actually considering suing the government for banning the book. :)

i think you read some protest from some politician who is trying to turn it into something that can benefit him politically. :)

"Andrew Roberts for The Wall Street Journal quotes passages from Gandhi's letters to Kallenbach included in the text, such as "...how completely you have taken *possession of my body. This is slavery with a vengeance" to support his conclusion that Gandhi was a "sexual weirdo" along with being "a political incompetent and a fanatical faddist".[3]

hmm...still cant find the main article though....but gandhiji grand son says if book is banned he will take legal action for unbanning the book....
