MUMBAI/NEW DELHI: GTL Infrastructure, a company that leases out towers to cell phone operators, has agreed to buy Aircel’s towers for Rs 4,000 crore
in an all-cash deal, a valuation lower than for similar deals in the past, reflecting waning investor interest in telecom.

GTL has outbid rival Tata-Quippo in the negotiations to buy the 17,500 towers of Aircel that will take its total to 33,000 and will give it access to another 20,000 that are being set up, said two people familiar with the development who did not want to be identified. That will make it the second-largest independent telecom infrastructure provider in the country.

NEW DELHI: Mobile services operator Aircel is in talks with three potential buyers to sell all its 17,500 telecoms towers, Chief Operating Officer Gurdeep Singh told reporters on Tuesday.

Aircel is 74 per cent owned by Malaysia's Maxis.

Telecom companies in India are looking to save on costs by sourcing infrastructure including mobile masts from peers and independent tower companies as they expand to smaller towns and rural areas of the country.

NEW DELHI: GTL Infrastructure is close to ink a deal with mobile service provider Aircel to buy over 17,000 telecom towers for a consideration of Rs
8,500 crore.

The two companies have reached an agreement and an announcement on this is likely tomorrow, a source privy to the development said today.

GTL has a network of over 23,700 towers and with this acquisition, it's slated to be one of the largest telecom infrastructure providers in the country.

The company had earlier said it was planning to erect, engineer and manage one lakh cell sites across 150 networks, enabling mobile connectivity to over 100 million subscribers in 50 countries.

MUMBAI: GTL Infrastructure (GIL), which leases towers to cellular operators, has agreed to buy Aircel Cellular’s tower business for Rs 8,400 crore
in an all-cash deal that will make it the world’s largest independent telecom tower company.

The world’s biggest deal yet in the telecom tower space is to be announced on Thursday, said two people involved in the talks.

The deal will take the tower tally of Mumbai-based GIL, 30% owned by the GTL Group, to 32,500. That is 8,500 more than the tower assets of US-based Crown Castle and 6,500 more than American Tower Corp (ATC). It also fortifies GIL’s position in the world’s fastest-growing telecom market that is seeing cut-throat tariffs, but no let-up in expansion by cellular players.

MUMBAI: Telecom tower maker GTL Infrastructure Ltd plans to have a footprint of 50,000 towers across India over the next three years with a view to
enhance its scale in the telecom infrastructure space, chairman Manoj Tirodkar said on Thursday.

The company, part of the diversified Global Group, today agreed to buy the tower assets of Aircel Ltd for Rs 8,400 crore in an all cash deal, making it one of the largest tower companies in the world.

Besides, GTL infra plans to erect 20,000 towers of its own to enhance its scale and footprint.
