it will only happen for a month or two. once the novelty of it wears off your usage will settle down. take the 15mbps plan. the FUP is higher. worst case u will be able to browse smoothly if u hit the limit early. u will never feel the difference between 25 and 15 :)

nopes... with a 10mbps line here i barely download from most servers at 3-4 mbits. apart frm torrents u won't see any difference anywhere esle.
trust me with 512k post FUP u will be tearing ur hair :D

It is a pure usage issue. I am not at home much but when I am, I want stuff to be super fast so I would opt for the 50 Mbps. I don't really care for torrents, so my usage rarely hits 15 GB (largely YouTube and nowadays software updates - Win8.1 was 3.6GB). If you are unsure, go for 50mbps first and if you hit FUP limit for a couple of months, go down to 15.

u may want stuff to be super fast but i guarantee you that you cannot download anything over 5 mbits on 80% of the sites. having a high speed line does not mean fast downloads. most servers will not serve u that fast except for the big corporates.

So I get a call from the Hathway guys after sending them a few reminders. He says Docsis 3.0 plans are available. He has said that I will get the modem today and thereafter life will be different. One important thing he told me. With the Docsis 3.0 plans, the Hathway login page will go altogether. Now that is a BIG change. The PPPoE authentication will now take place from within the modem. Now THAT is worth paying for. Will keep everyone updated.
BTW, has anyone got Docsis 3.0 yet? It will be good to know your experience if you have

Monaal, is authentication from modem like the Hathway guy told me? Or do you still have the login page?
Also what brand of modem have they given you? Was a modem with a built in wireless router an option?

Hey Amit
first of all the authentication is not through PPPoe mode its through a static and mac address . So once when they record your mac address of your router or computer you wont be able to change it without calling them . I dont know what brand the router is cause it has hatway written all over it .
Nope they dont give you Docsis 3.0 modem with wifi you will have to take the wifi separately by paying rs 1000 as deposit .

Thanks for the quick response monaal. Good to know that authentication is gone for good. They should record the router mac with a fixed ip. That will really sort things out for me. He didn't tell me about the Rs 1000 for the modem but let's see. He says they will come today but given no indication of time.
There is usually a small manufacturer label below. If they have branded it Hathway, it is unlikely to be a known manufacturer like Motorola or Cisco. More likely a Chinese manufacturer.
Completely off the topic but any idea if Docsis 3.0 (and more importantly the modem Hathway is giving) is IPv6 compatible?
