The attainable range also depends on your BSNL WIFI Modem!
 
2 miles r u drunk ..no way not possible with any router..( no idea about ULTRA high end corporate networking wifi routers )
 
It is possible in a straight line using dish antennae, but considering that you didn't know whether your desktop had wifi or not; it is not meant for you.

If you get proper signals over 200m, you should be extremely happy! 2 miles for a home router would be bordering on networking insanity.

These days, you have extremely small wifi adapters. Avoid those. They have poor antenna and heat up faster.

I have a Belkin N150 adapter which has a decent antenna.
