Yeah they didn't really give him an excuse to pass it off as his fault, they just replaced it straight up but gave that as a reason for the patch. Sounded kinda flimsy though
I personally thought that it was because of moisture. Maybe during the cleaning process, too much water was used. Could be environmental. I have had a lot of issues with LCD panel based devices at my place. Even my Dell premium display was replaced numerous time under warranty because of similar dark patches. Now outside warranty, I manage with the same spots
And I have been extremely careful with the Dell displays. Microfiber cloth and everything. Still, manages to get dark patches after a few months of usage.
use very very little pressure on screens when cleaning. Dell monitors have bad track record personally if pressure is applied on screen, no matter how small
i actually took care of that as well on one of the replacement units. and nothing seemed to stop development of dark patches. it's all in the panels. and i can only imagine that they sold units with cheaper panels here in india because i saw a lot of similar complaints on Dell forums and other places from mostly indian and some european consumers. not from usa.
i wish displays came with laptop style hard glass covers as well (like the ones on macbooks).
They've reverted back to their previous model of buying extended warranty. They'll send you their bank details and you'll have to transfer the amount they quote and then you'll have to send the transaction details and TV details to them and warranty will be extended to two more years. You'll have to get this within 90 days from the date of purchase.
