ah. would avoid doing that. coz the page hits the server every 7 seconds even when you are not looking at the tab with that page. and the more people do that the more chances you would get a dead server due to excessive load.

oh i thought mod cud see what others are doing. i think that plugin must be available somewhere. because when u go to profile page of any user it shows his/her last activity.

not bandwidth. more connected to SQL connections.well this plugin is more like a hack. is not integrated with the forum. just a raw file which connects to the database and updates it with the latest posts posted on the forum... i would continue to monitor future versions which could possibly add more features.

O queries the database , but from what i kno hosts usually provide large sql tables and simultaneous connections so hows that a problem

i think it shud be easy to increase update interval from 7 seconds to say 1 min.

the forum runs on a dedicated server... pentium dual core with 2 gig ram. i modified the server settings to allow a large number of sql connections as suggested on the vb forum... it has helped compared to the problems i faced just after moving from IPB to vB... but people have complained that sometimes they do face issues...and the forum does not even have 10% of the load compared to popular indian forums like team-bhp and others!heh. 1 minute would be too much time for periods like now... otherwise most of the time during a day we have little traffic. and few people would be using this page anyways. so not an issue with 7 sec...
