arent those CPUs still at 90nm? or are they now at 65nm like Intel's C2Ds? I personally prefer a C2D at 2 ghz with 4 MB cache but i agree AMD's might be good value-for-moneyFor quad core, will wait for AMD's Phenom to be tested/reviewed to see which is better, Phenom or Intel's Penryn...
Just a fortnight back i got a AMD X2 4000+ and Jetway 690G motherboard with 2 GB ( 1 GB x 2 ) Transcend DDR2 @ 667 Mhz for 7700 Rs from lamington road in Mumbai. The system is running like a charm. Like someone said earlier , it's a great VFM thing.
Technology is moving so fast that spending a huge amount on a relative high end cpu now will look silly one year from now. Remember one thing , getting a fast cpu is useless if you don't pair it with a really good motherboard. Getting a CPU and mobo combination right is not exactly a simple thing. Technical sites like Anandtech , Tomshardware etc are great but real experience may be a complete contrast to the review you have read.
Another concern is that apart from processors everything else is "Made in china" stuff. I doubt if it will be the same case if you buy products in the U.S or Europe.
I have a slightly different problem. Please guide me someone. Currently my desktop has an Intel DG965SS mainboard with an Intel D805 (533 MHz) processor and 2x512 MB 800 MHz DDR2 ram. The hdd is a Seagate 250 GB SATA2. I have an oportunity to get an advanced processor. Which higher-faster processor could be used. The mainboard socket is LGA775 and I do have an additional mainboard fan. The intel weblink for the mainboard does mention Core2Duo upto 1066 MHz or 800 MHz. Which model would be value for money in Mumbai? Can a core2quad be workable with this mainboard? My apologies ... I have posted this query at another thread too.
