IRCTC News & Updates

You mean ticket counters are now open till 11:00?? Thats cool for me since most mumbai local stations seem to have reservation counters (at least Malad/Borivli have them).
oops. looks like i misunderstood. i meant online tickets are available till 11.
at station i think its only till 8.

Well local ticketing agents in Mubmai (they are authorized vendors of Indian railways like IRCTC) don not charge a single rupee (they are not allowed to)

They get a % of ticket from railways since they take care of ticket printing etc.

Similarly IRCTC must be getting a % from railways. There is no logic for them charging service fees for tickers that need not be couriered.

The one in Itarsi station is Neelam hotel (0757 - 2236105). [if you happen to travel north from Mumbai or South from Delhi, this station is almost in middle]

Any such hotel on mumbai to ahmedabad route ?

hey, I hope i'm posting at the right place.. i would like to know if you could book tickets for 8 passengers at one time.. 8 of us are travelling together.. and the website allows you to enter only 6 names..So if i book for 6 for the first time and the remaining 2 the second time , i would mostly not get berths at the same place..i mean the 6 passengers would get it together but the other 2 might be anywhere else..Is it possible to book 8 tickets together so that i would get all 8 seats in the same place..thanks..prash..

6 is the maximum number of people allowed on a single ticket. for the other 2 you will have to buy another ticket. as you said buying it online may give you random seats and 2 passengers would get seats somewhere else. maybe you should go to the station and buy the tickets.

i dont know how it worked, but some time back, we total 15 persons wants to travel together, and one of us made an application, on that basis, we got seats together. better u go to station and ask that is it possible now or not.i dont think buying direct from station, will give u additional facilities to choose seats than buying from irctc.co.in.

I happened to book a train ticket through online(irctc.co.in) few weeks back.Since there were around 50 seats were available for that particular train i opted the option of book only with lower birth. Though the payment was successful the ticket was not booked successfully.I tried twice, only the amount got detect from my account but the booking was failure. At last i was able to book the ticket only after removing the book only lower birth option and got the upper birth. It seems that the validation of lower birth is happening after the successful payment. What a poor implementation of software. They took a week to credit the amount back.

Yes., If you have any rules set ie. Book only if Lower berth is available, Book only if the ticket is available in the same compartment, the booking will not be successful. Moreover as this system is used widely throughout the nation, it is tough to get the seat as we want. Only when the tickets are available more, the berth will be available as we want. And with limited seats,IRCTS sells the upper berth first than lower berth. Also another pain is that, if you book i-ticket and wanted to cancel it, again you need to walk into the reservation counter for cancellation.. the amount will be credited to the account again and not in direct.. why the half-automation being done.. either they should only make e-ticket to available through the internet so we can cancel the ticket through online hassle free...When it come to the internet everything should be available on one click, and not again going back to the counter for cancellation.Internet booking is meant for avoiding a long queue in counter, and easy payment methods etc.. in that case why we need to walk for cancellation if we book i-ticket.I always prefer e-ticket where my reservation charges are less compare to the i-ticket...
