a decent wifi modem+router is available for 2k to 3.5k.

Yes, 15k for the best routers. Decent or good enough routers / modem+ routers will be at a different price point. Wouldn't you agree?

Consider the Asus RT-N13U, An excellent router - and dd-wrtable (if you are into that kinda thing). Also decently priced.

If you already own a BSNL modem, then purchase this router and configure it and you are done

You do not need a high end router for basic secured Wifi ... no need to waste a lot of money on a router .. you can check the additional features as per your choice
I would personally advise only Netgear or Linksys routers though there are other good brands too such as TP-Link, D-Link, Asus etc. I own two Netgears routers (one of them router cum modem) for over 5 years and they work like a charm still. Netgear routers are rough and tough with inbuilt firewall and child protection option available and are extremely easy to configure... the Wifi reach is also good and work for any medium to large house (wifi signals of any router would depend on the amount of obstructions from the router to the computer though and too many walls etc. in between might cause problems)

By all mean shift to WiFi. If already have modem, get an iBall WiFi router. Costs around Rs. 900.

Best bet would be go for a single Modem cum Router such as D-Link DSL-2750U Wireless N ADSL2 4-Port Wi-Fi Router
Right now i am using it. It must be placed in centre of house to get good coverage ,its not possible to get a good signal to all rooms,if modem is placed to a corner of the house
A Standalone router is more powerful than router cum modem (if you want to connect to a inverter,it will be a problem,you need to but a spike to connect both modem and Router)

he said best, not decent. If you want things like 900 mbps speeds, WiFi AC support, Built in Fileserver(s) etc. you need to shell out that kind of money.

yes D-Link is the best.Also what is the procedure for opting WI-FI?should one has to get permission from the BSNL people for shifting? Also should they configure the modem or we can configure it with out taking it to them ?
