But somehow, i am not open to web-based apps for permanent document creation, editing & Storage.....

I would always prefer an Offline Office Suite against an online one.

Feels sick that I need to spend 4K just to use PowerPoint.

Thats Microsoft for u......i am feeling the same since long.This feeling itself has triggered my liking for Open source.....

Without charging a penny, these people give u some helpful tools. If by using their apps, they get the necessary support, i am ready to support them.

Wow! A picture in the PPTX These people are amazing.Actually I was feeling a bit paranoid with online editing, but,Google docs is secure, unless you have Rats on your system.I must say Google docs is enough for basic doc work.

Well, the PPTX (Powerpoint File) just had a useless picture, and I was considering purchasing MS Office license just for this piece of shit.

Ok, so u wanted to open a file, and it ended up being a "chindi" file or something.....

if you just wanted to open a pptx file, you could have just used the free viewer app microsoft provides.

of course office web apps and google docs can also do the same. i believe services like scribd can also do the needful.

Its Microsoft......Before u install that free viewer, it will:First check ur copy of Windows....Next it will ask u to give some details regarding that installed OS to be sent to Microsoft (They dont trust the validtaion still)Next u will need to call up on their Number & enter 40-50 character long pin to see whether its valid or not....U r lucky enough, then it will get completed on IVRS. Else, u will be diverted to a Human in Call centre.....Finally u r now ready to use the free tool from Microsoft -Congratulations!!
