hi guys... i've been facing this issue since 20 days now. once i startup my modem, the link light usually blinks green, then becomes a steady green and then turns to orange. but the problem is that for me, it only blinks green for a few seconds and turns off. i CAN access the router home page, which is MT882. when the light is blinking, it's status says 'Training' and when it is off, it says 'Link Down'. i tried using my modem in my friends house, and it worked. i used his modem in my place, but got the same issue. i called up BSNL tech support(?) and their efforts were helpless too. they said it's a problem with the lines in their office, and they'll get it checked. 2 days later, some guy calls up as though he's checking the status and lines n all, but nothing has changed!!!:wall: does anyone know of a resolution for this issue? please help me out cos i cant survive without the internet in my room PC!:( thanx PS: im posting this from my brothers' Airtel broadband!

Assuming 20 days back your Internet was working fine.
Then what was the change ? Ensure all telephones connected AFTER the splitter.
Can you post(screeenshot or details ) dsl status showing snr attenuation etc.

1. May be you can try a replacement splitter ?

2.How do I perform an isolation test?

To perform an isolation test, we need to unplug all phones, answering machines, fax machines, monitored alarm systems, external ringers, filters and the like from the telephone line. If there are any cordless phones, wireless routers or anything that uses a radio frequency, please turn them off at the power point as they may cause interference with the Broadband modem. Making sure that the Broadband modem is the only device plugged into the telephone line ensures there are no other devices interfering with the sync. Once you have isolated the line, shut down the computer and turn off the power to the modem. Leave everything powered down for a few minutes and then turn the modem on. Once all of the lights have steadied, turn on the computer and retest your connection.
If performing this test resolves your issue, this can indicate a number of things. Either one of the devices is faulty or is incompatible or that one of the filters is faulty. From time to time, electrical pulses or shocks can occur down the phone line which can "fry" filters. More often than not, customers will find that the filter is at fault although this may not always be the case.

i've already tried connecting the phone line ONLY to the modem, i've tried it connecting it to the modem after passing it through the splitter and without it also. still the same problem.also the SNR attenuation is 0.0 db. never shows any value.

not clear.Telephone JUnction Box ====>>>Rj11==>>>Splitter ====PHONE PORT===>>> to all phones...............splitter==>ADSL PORT==>>RJ11==>>to modem===>>>RJ45===>>> to computer. Para two : SNR if zero, there is no signal and no noise ! In IE 192.168.1.1/main.html Under Advanced Diagnostics check the status.. Para three : In computer Start/Network/L.A.N/properties/TCP/IP propertieswhat it shows ? OR easierstart run type cmd type ipconfig/allwhat is the report ?Para three : You can try MT882 in your brother's Airtel connection. Enter same DATA what is entered in Airtel Beetel modem. and check SNR and Attenuation data.

dheerajsp, the problem is your networking properties.Go to Control Panel-->Networking-->TCPIP-Ethernet Adapter-->1. In WINS configuration, select Disable WINS resolution.2. In Bindings, Allow bindings as relevant.3. Make sure binding to ATM is Allowed/YES.Save your way out and if asked reboot. Should work.PS: If still doesn't work, tell more about your networking configuration and settings. Your settings seem to be the problem (particularly if the modem log says connection establsihed and then STOP), and not the line or modem.Err, wait. You say your phone works fine and still you are getting SNR 0? It is good possibility that your RJ11 connector is physically defective/damaged? Get it crimped again and see the results. Or Are you sure you are reading the correct readings? Try and reset the modem, and then you may have to reconfigure it again. Also try and read the Record/Log of the modem in "Status". What does it say?For the record, here are my readings:SNR Up/Down 27.7 dB/27.5 dBAttenuation Up/Down 23.0 dB /56.0 dBYes, the line sucks, and so does the speed, but at least I can connect and browse at slow speeds.

assuming there is no problem in the splitter/wires, is your 882 set to bridge mode and you dial from OS? or is the modem set to do PPPoE dialling for you and you just use DHCP in OS?check the VPI/VCI settings, i forget the required numbers, search around here or wiki or someone might post it here...On wiki I saw " In the ATM/PVC Configuration, VPI should be set to 0 and VCI to 32. Click on next to proceed." but this is for another UTStarCom modem, might be same for you. Also try VPI/VCI as 1/35

the modem is set to PPPoE dailing. VPI:0, VCI: 35(settings given by Dataone tech support)

and it's not set to DHCP. i've entered the settings given by dataone tech support. i dunno what it is right now cos im at work. ill try all the steps you guys asked.... thanx.

Yes, the line sucks, and so does the speed, but at least I can connect and browse at slow speeds.
im sure that the settings i've mentioned is correct. the status says Link Down when the ADSL link light is off, and it says Training when the light is blinking green. it never becomes steady. i have already done the reset on the modem once cos i previously had problems accessing the router home page(which was thankfully solved by dataone tech support by doin a reset).

when i run the diagnostics, it only passes the first test. it fails the 2nd test and skips the rest.

when i try to repair the Local Area Conenction, it tried to renew my IP address and it fails.

i dont think it's a problem with the RJ11 port itself. i've tried all sorts of combinations of using different phone cables, but it doesnt help resolve the issue.
