MTNL Triband
I have the old 590NU MTNL Triband plan and am thinking of switching over to 849NU plan temporarily, just for around the rest of the month. Will be migrating to 200P plan after that.Roughly how long will it takes for the MTNL guys to change my triband connection once the application has been submitted by me.Is the 849NU plan good. I mean do you actually get around 2Mbps speed between 12-8 am night. Asking this because the quoted speed on the MTNL Triband site for this plan is 256Kbps to 2Mbps.Do they impose any extra charges just for changing the plan.On my current plan I have used up around 850mb out of the allowed 1024mb. If I apply now and they change my plan immediately to 849NU how will I get the current month's bill in the next month. Does anybody know how it will be calculated.

I too would like some info on this topic:redface:

I didn't know they had MTNL Triband in Tokyo :D

Well scott274 it is better to change the plan on the second last day of the month. It takes only 1-2 days to change over the plan. And why don't u change the internet plan over the phone. Just call 198 or 1504 and tell them I want to change my internet plan from 590NU to 849NU. They will ask ur telephone no. and u call once when they will be changing ur plan for confirmation. I have changed my internet plan twice over the phone from DSL199 to DSl599 to 849NU.And u get speeds of 2 Mbps during the night.

So it takes them about 1-2 days to change the plan once applied, Rohan you didn't mention if they charge anything just for changing the plan in the monthly telephone bill.Any I would also like some comment on my last question please in addition to any confirmations.

1. The 849NU is very good provided your modem is synced properly which in turn will provide you with better speeds. This depends on your exchange.

Downstream data rate : 2048
Upstream : 256
You can view this on your modem page.

2. No extra charges are imposed on changing the plan.

3. No idea about this but they do reduce your usage accordingly to the days in a month

yup on first of every month the new plan comes into action. but that does not necessarily guarantee that change of speed(256 to 2mbps).one has to follow up with lots of calls to their customer care.:wall:

So even if I give them the application now, they will change my plan only on the 1st of the coming month and chances are the speed will not be upgraded along with the plan but I will probably have to contact them again and again for it.

Didn't understand about the syncing modem properly but I guess that part comes after my plan has been changed by MTNL.

what is ping? you have 51-29 respectively.. is 99ms good or bad.

And no extra charges are imposed for plan change. Thanks for your advise guys, I will think over this now..

before you change over to the 849NU plan, kindly consider the following factors since i am currently on one.

[*]The connection needs to be disconnected at 12am and 8am for the plan to take place. So if you start your connection at 8pm and do not disconnect till 2am then you'll be charged for all the data transfer till 2am and not 12am. (sometimes you may not get charged if you are lucky). Sameway if you start your session at 5am and donot disconnect till 11am you'll be charged for the full period.
[*]Killing of session can be either scheduled or needs to be done manually. To schedule the same there are a couple of scripts already available just google search for it. The procedure is fairly simple.
[*]In some places you dont get full speed from 12am to 2am and can hover anywhere around 1Mbps. However the speed then peaks out to 2 Mbps till 8am. I usually have problems from 12 to 1am.
[*]Best part of the plan - You can easily do anywhere around 5 GB per night
