Will this affect Android OS?. I hope it won't. If Google makes Android exclusive to Motorola devices, KM 11.10 might become choice of other manufacturers.
It may indeed be about the patents. Only time will tell.
That seems to be the biggest reason. With Motorola's patents Google can fight all the current patent litigations by Apple and other Cos. This gives real leverage to Google in the industry. Good acquisition.
experts have already pointed out that motorola patents does not help google much against the oracle lawsuit which has been the biggest threat to google personally. rest of the lawsuits are rather trivial and would probably be settled outside the court.
